Nope, relatively flat Interstate in Houston. With math done out that should be right around 89mph :) (33's and 3.7's)

Marley with 5 speed, 33s and 4:11s @+/- 2900 RPM SO FUN!

Kline, Marley had stock wheels and 33 x 10.5 ATs when we wheeled together at Barnwell.

Oh. I forgot about that.... We were wheeling though lol. Different environment made me forget. And you had dark rims :)

Kinda crazy these things can go that fast. Honestly my truck feels stable at that speed in a straight line kinda impressive.

Yes, painted the wheels black. That speed was on a straight run between Longview and Carthage, hwy driving I was always comfortable at ANY speed. Marley was top heavy with that big rack and never liked curves over ~ 60 mph.

That seems right. I'm set up the same and at 2500 rpm the GPS indicates ca. 70 mph. My speedo is way off and at this ground speed the speedo will be showing ca. 80.

I've put a GPS on mine just recently. A free app on my iPhone. Going indicated 60mph on the dash was 67mph on the GPS. I'll investigate that further some day. But for now, It runs good. :)

Right then...

Now, you just need to flip the switch on the Flux Capacitor and you'll be traveling back in time before 1980...!

Your Mission (should you choose to accept): persuade Toyota engineers to address all of our 2015 woes...

...rust...power steering...4spd...you get the picture...

So I topped off the tank today...

Got 222.7 miles on the trip meter

Only put in 16.921 gallons.

Using the same math that I have used previously gives a result of 14.8 mpg!

This tank was 90% highway at 60mph+

That means on one tank of gas I should be able to go 340 miles with .8 gallon to spare! So a realistic 300 per tank easily.

I can't really use the gas gauge position as reference since I cleaned the contacts after the 5 speed swap. But I can tell you that if the trip meter read 222.7 while using the H42 I would have needed gas. Probably 2-3 gallons more than what I put in today. I never run the tank super low as a good habit.

Fun times.... what's next?

Front door window regulators, runs, felts. Paint hood, left fender and other areas.

Bleed brake system... My clutch fluid was NASTY. Address a possible leaky caliper.

Order more parts. I like parts :D

Don't mean this in a bad way but... Isn't it nice to not be daily driving it? So you can take it off the road for a few days and not worry?

Yeah it's great. That's why I own another Toyota. :D

I do miss DD'ing it. I've driven it for so long. The work I put into it keeps me focused. It's a labor of love. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Changed my fan clutch with a new one last night. Drove the 60 to work today. Hearing that ROAR when the clutch is actually working = priceless. I guess my attempt of filling the old one with fluid was bust. If anyone wants it, let me know. It couldn't keep my engine cool with AC running in this hot weather. Now it sits at the proper 1/3-ish.

Old vs New!

That's all for now :)

Has anyone ever tried running a solid spacer instead of the fan clutch? Any reason this wouldn't work?

Your fan would be on 100% of the time. You'd experience overcooling at speed.

In Florida... This might not be that bad.

I would imagine that this would be okay in Texas on a V8 in a rockcrawler when it is 100°+ outside. But for our 2F's/3FE's a fan clutch is recommended. (Although it does seem my fan clutch never stopped roaring, and it was only in the 90's. lol)

Just got a few more parts in from the one and only @beno Thanks for the parts :)

Front caliper rebuild kit, glove box bumpers, missing bolt from my transfercase, (4) fan shroud bolts (holds it to radiator), and the choke cable firewall grommet.

I bought the glove box bumpers to try and use for the center console. They do fit into the holes in the lid. Maybe just a little too small. They pull out with a little force, but will not fall out on their own.

Initial test fit they were a little too tall. Lid would not latch when just pushing it closed. Grabbed my cutters that I use for zip ties and sliced a little bit off the top. Pushed it shut. Latched. No wiggle room.

The weakest link now is the hinge itself. It wiggles quite a bit. The bumpers have to land on little raised portions. It can almost move left to right enough to miss those.

Good repair to the console. I'll keep an eye on them and make sure they don't fall out, etc.

I'll get around to the other stuff soon enough. It's been hot here lately :flipoff2:

Well, been driving this thing off and on. Took it to San Luis Pass last weekend with a group of Cruiser guys. I can add pictures later of that.

Before I drove it to work last Friday and the weekend trip, I checked the oil. Nothing on the dipstick... Added one quart, nothing. Two quarts, nothing. Three quarts, a little bit. Four Quarts = Full.

Probably had 3000 miles or so on that oil. Fresh after my oil pan gasket, no leaks, anywhere. No sign of oil in coolant/ coolant in oil. 4 quarts just vanished.

Did a compression test last night with @FARMAN33 (thanks brotha)

Cylinder 1 - 132
Cylinder 2 - 120
Cylinder 3 - 120
Cylinder 4 - 122
Cylinder 5 - 116
Cylinder 6 - 119

Conditions were: engine at operating temp, throttle held open with hand throttle, all spark plugs removed, coil wire removed.

I forgot to squirt oil in the cylinders and re-test to check if the rings are more to blame or not.

I do smoke a little on cold starts. I took a video the other day that I will upload, or maybe re-do with a GoPro.

This head has ~52k on it since the rebuild in December 2008. I was younger then, not as experienced as I am now. I don't remember all the details of that rebuild

I will keep investigating :poof:
