Had to pull off the transmission tunnel cover to gain enough clearance to install the 5 speed. I installed the t-case lever after stabbing the transmission. The clearance issue was due to the "taller" 5 speed

When I pulled the carpet a mysterious amount of leaves came down from behind the A/C stuff... sigh

And this I found funny. When i pulled the carpet on the driver side...

Camping

Fixed the shift lever. I'll get a comparison shot soon. It's MUCH better now.

And while I was camping I got these annoying ants in my car. So I pulled the rear mat and decided to clean the fuel sending unit connector. It needed it! Initial observations is that it really helped the gauge reading.

I'll keep thinking of other things to post I'm sure...

Oh yeah, I haven't gotten a full tank without a canoe on the roof. Last tank was majority canoe on roof and then two days driving to work. Got 13.77mpg

I really want to take it on a long trip and track some highway miles, but I'm sure I'll get to at some point.

did you not move your transmission cross-member? I though it had to move back the 3" because of the transmission length? If not that means I can bolt in an H55f myself now ! :)

In the FJ60s the cross-member is located in the same location no matter what variety of H42 is being supported. The extra length of a later H42 or H55F is behind the transmission. Differences in FJ60 cross-members are related to whether the tranny is mounted level (earlier and non-spacer H42s) or clocked (later H42s with spacer).

If you've swapped in a 4 speed into your FJ62 you're ready to jump up to the H55F. If you've installed an earlier non-spacer H42 you'll have to swap out drive shafts when going to the H55F.

That's what I thought, after looking at my H41 realized the mount is at the front.

Yeah. The cross member doesn't matter. It still bolts up all the same.

That's why I loved doing this swap. I hope it makes everything easier for people down the line. You can't rule out an early truck for a 5 speed swap :)

Well done, Klinetime! That's gotta be nice to have that 5-speed upgrade.

Thanks man :)

I just did about 60 miles last night. Returning home later today and I'll check the mileage. Looking like it's gonna be pretty good.

Well I haven't gotten a chance to check the gas mileage yet. I did get a new shot of the shifter though before putting it back in the garage on Sunday.

2nd gear. Compare this to the before above.

The 5 speed was one of the best mods I ever did in Marley. Goss had the 5 speed when I got him.. Now you need 4.11s and you'll be SET! HA!

Initial impressions with the 3.7's haven't been terrible. I like that first is usable on the street. I have a feeling that with 4.11's I'd only use first gear off-road. And let's face it. This thing is a pavement princess.

In fact I've debated switching back to AT's. My buddy has a 62 with OME lift, stock wheels and 33x10.5 BFG A/T's. I had never seen a set in person...They don't look as ballooned out as I thought they would.

I still have all 5 stock wheels in my Dads attic (Thanks for the free storage Dad lol)

Decisions. Decisions. But first I need new window regulators for the front doors. Girlfriend is mad she can't use her window :hillbilly:

With my 285/75's (just a hair over 33") and 4.11's I pretty much always start in first, I can start in second but it needs a bit of gas.

4.11's also don't make higher speeds completely unbearable (keep in mind I have no overdrive), but 3.73's and overdrive must make the highway a great place.

I'm probably confusing because it is 2:00 AM here but I'd recommend 4.11's.

Klinetime..given majority of miles are going to be highway 3.73s with the 5 speed seems to be optimal. Looking forward to your assessment after more long trips. Enjoy!

Snapped this on the way home. It's a beast for sure! Loving this 5 speed. Anyone debating a 5 speed needs to get one. You will not regret it!

Mileage looking awesome so far. Normally would be at ~1/4 tank at 148 miles. I'm above that for sure.

I can remember almost redlining at 80mph with the old 4 speed.

Were you going downhill?[emoji54]

Nope, relatively flat Interstate in Houston. With math done out that should be right around 89mph :) (33's and 3.7's)

Congrats on getting the new tranny worked out. What a great ride!!!

Kline, Marley had stock wheels and 33 x 10.5 ATs when we wheeled together at Barnwell.
