HI all- The rust on my roof is starting to get out of control and I know I need to handle it soon. I guess I've mainly been putting it off because I don't know where to take it and don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Any recommendations? Just looking for quality workmanship and paint, doesn't need to be showroom quality. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

it is labor intensive, and most shops don't want to do the work.
maybe cross the border and have it done down there
find an old school guy who is willing to take the job on
learn how to do your own metal work

without pics, it is hard to guess, but to pay someone to do it in CA could very well cost both arms and legs

Probably an arm and 2 legs. I don't have any recommendations but you are looking at alot of man hours to do it correctly and there is more rust than you think if the roof is rusting.
You could get ahold of @TRAIL TAILOR he is doing paint work have no clue if he is taking on customers for it tho also @kelly saad same thing. Or there is always Mexico.

Damn. Here are pics to help see what I’m talking about.

One of my 62's was that bad if not worse. If you're looking to get it to pristine quality, it's going to cost a mint. For my 62, I just wanted to keep it as the dog hauler/beach mobile and mainly keep water from coming in to the cab. I ended up having the holes cut out and filled at a local shop and then the entire roof Line X'd. The cancer is still eating away at the metal underneath, I know, but the Line X has not budged. Serves my purposes now and no water getting in. I did have it painted in TJ, and they did some body work on my other 62. Great shop and far less expensive than anything you'll find in So Cal. Thread is here for details.

If you want to repair it correctly, the roof and gutters needs to be removed, repaired, cleaned up and reinstalled. I’m doing two roof jobs this year. I have noticed that western coastal 60’s roofs commonly rust like this. At least from what I have seen with customers 60’s

seems they rust from the top down and up north they rust from the bottom up

@RojoFJ62 Like he said, this is the only real way to do this properly and ensure all rust is addressed. The process of removing the roof skin is very straightforward. The rest is dependent on the specific truck but below is a rough overview.

This was my experience of fixing my roof rust with a buddy in his garage.
