Don't forget the Star Wars bit here. :grinpimp:

Thanks Mike! That's the one! Admiral Ackbar FTW!!!

Dan

Umm, negative Ghost Rider! Plus I think you forgot to tell Mike "may the force be with you".

Back to Robbie's wrenching. Any updates?

Spoke with Robbie earlier this evening. He will be ripping into the head gasket on my 80 tonight and off to the machine shop tomorrow morning. Also said he will be finishing up on Carol's rig. I will be stopping over tomorrow to drop off some more parts, UPS and FedEx dropped off two IPOR Skid Plates (poor FedEx guy had no clue, just that they were heavy), UPS brought the snorkel and Slee parts. BTW, anyone have the proper hole saw before I go and buy one for the snorkel?

I am also accumulating a lot of extra parts in my garage from what I took off...running boards, front bumper, rear bumper parts, mud flaps, etc. Are these worth selling on the classifieds or more of a give away?

i wonder if he'd be interested in installing my gears?

i was serious about this. any way to ask him? is he here? U-Joints can't do it since there is no 3rd member removal in my Chevy axles.

Keith,
I had some luck selling parts on mud, no luck with the running boards though.
Worth it to post them up and see what happens, someone could be looking what you have!

Hmm, the mud flaps interest me :D I must be the only 80 who actually likes having mud flaps and flares.

My UPS guy was kinda interested in my lift when he delivered it this summer... the strangest thing he's brought so far was the 80lb futon mattress.

What is the proper one for that? I have some metal ones.

I most of mine are still together. Just need to take the time to put on the front mud flaps.

What size do you need? I also have an assortment.

Shawn -

Robbie is back from Boulder. He came in yesterday. I will send you a PM with his phone number and you can give him a call about your gears. He will be here for a while - maybe another week or longer - not really sure. He has a fair amount of work left on Keith's truck - mostly head-gasket related. The head from keith's truck will be going to the machine shop this morning. He will also be finishing up the suspension on Carol's 60, and I have a gear oil leak on my front diff. He will have to pull the axles to replace the diff gasket.

Evan

Stopped over to see Robbie today and how the 80 is progressing. Lift and axle rebuild went well - and as Evan said, looks very tall on the stock tires. Robbie had ripped into the engine and found that I was burring oil excessively and had some scoring in a couple of the cylinders and carbon build up on the head. One course is to just do the head gasket and keep up with the burning oil and put some RX treatment into the engine....second option is a rebuild, which is what I am leaning towards. Would rather fix the problem than put a band-aid on it as well as gaining some extra HP from the engine. Going to be in the shop for a little while longer....

Sorry to hear that Keith but I'm in a similar boat as well. I'm pulling the engine out of Michele's 80 today so that should free up the engine hoist and stand for Robbie in a couple of days. My block is pitted and I don't want to band aid the issue either so a little resurfacing is in order. If it turns out that her 80 engine kicks my 80's ass, then there will have to be an engine swap project in the near future me thinks!!!

Dude, why wait. Avoid the rush. 1HD-T NOW!!!!

BTW--I've got an engine stand with nothing bolted to it, if you guys need another one. And I'll call in a bit, I'm planning on heading over there to help you pull that motor.

Another status report. The work on my truck is essentially complete now. Robbie had wrapped up the engine work a while ago, but I had a leaky gasket on the front diff. So Robbie pulled the axles & birfs to replace the diff gasket. We got all new seals and bearings from Dan to do the front axle service as well. Robbie also replaced a u-joint on the front driveshaft that was questionable.

The rear driveshaft checked out fine and just got a good lube before being reinstalled. The wheel bearings on the rear full floater were lubricated and replaced with new seals. Brakes were bled, and now I think I'm ready to go wheeling in the snow!

Sounds good Evan - I'll be there with you when I get back from Thailand, sure am anxious to get her out! I'll either run that check by your office or drop it off at the house when I go out to see Robbie before I take off.

Keith,
Are we going to see some pics of your new rig??

Robbie says he's planning to come over today to take a picture of it while the engine is "missing." Maybe he'll post one up. It does look kind of empty in that engine bay right now.

Ali and Robbie got both engine blocks to the machine shop yesterday.

which means he's got time to finish up my rig... ;)

Correct - it was my impression that he would be done with your 60 today or tomorrow. It's getting close!

Here are a few pics of the work in progress. Robbie installed the snorkel the other day - sure my sedan driving neighbors will give me some weird looks....received enough from them when I was installing the Slee bumpers. Once I get back from Thailand the IPOR skid plate will be going on, fenders coming off, and some electrical wiring.
