That’s a great photo! I’ve always wondered how people with the Gamiviti speaker grill were getting their Roadtop screens set up. It’s interesting to see behind the scene. 😀
This is what I did with mine:

Sometimes (maybe once a week or so) my Road Top will freeze and the only way to reset it is to unplug it. So instead I wired it on a switch so if it freezes I just have to flip the switch to off and then on. Much better than messing with unplugging and plugging while driving. Funny thing is that since I installed the switch it hasn’t frozen!! 😂

Can you share a front on pic of your screen and setup? The reason I ask is because the Gamiviti plate doesn’t sit flush with the pre-dash update. It hurts my eye of symmetry but was thinking the car play screen would hide it.

You are correct. Mine is the same and while the screen does kind of hide it…still annoying.

I’m going to use something like this to hide it.

Has anyone been able to figure out phone mirroring on the Road Top? I want to mirror the screen on my iPhone to the Road Top screen for when I am sitting around waiting for my kids, etc and I want to watch YouTube or something. I messed around with it today and could not figure it out.

The Roadtop ad says it uses "MirrorLink" to do the screen mirroring. This is an Android only function as far as I know.

It has Airplay as well. Just connect to the "broadcasted" wifi of the Roadmap, then airplay

Tried that and can’t get it display. CarPlay works fine…just can’t get the AirPlay to mirror.

You are right, something must have changed in the last few firmware updates because I can’t get it to work either

On a separate note, I’ve made a couple of changes that have made things even more OEM-like
1. Changed the mount to this very simple one from Amazon to make things cleaner. Keep in mind the bottom edge of my unit is affixed to the edge of the dashboard with double sided gorilla clear tape. Also I removed both clamping rings to maximize angles. Things are solid, no wobbling.

2. Made a simple adjustment under equalizer settings to route all audio from phone through car Bluetooth. I already operated in this manner (phone paired to both, Land Cruiser and RoadTop) but without this change sound would not come through vehicle if I operated through Road Top instead of vehicle controls, so I had to hit pause/play on the dashboard. Also if I tapped a text message in RoadTop I would not hear it. All that is fixed, this has made operation fell 100% OEM

I got it to work after restarting my iPhone and the RoadTop, but honestly it’s not a feature I really use so I’m not too worried about it.

On a 22 hour road trip the Garmin 8.6 car unit is amazing, it understands voice controls traffic alerts and excellent detours.

So after reviewing this thread for maybe almost a year, I finally broke down and ordered the RoadTop 8.9" off Amazon. Very excited. It arrived today and shortly after, I was able to get down to my basement office and get it opened up. I immediately became concerned however when I found a rattle in the body of the device. Have any of you experienced this? What's your recommendation?

Here's a 20 second video clip of what it's doing.

Yikes, never, return and reorder

zero rattles on mine and I've beat it up a bit

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve done something I NEVER do and got on top of it right away this time. It’s already on its way back.

Sounds like you got the 1 out of 1,000 that had that issue.

I love my RoadTop. There is only one glitch mine has and I cannot figure it out. When I drive by a certain spot in my daily commute the RoadTop loses Bluetooth connection. It is at the SAME spot daily. Must be some electrical power like something or other. Or an underground bunker with a giant power source for a prepper.
