Just caught this.

Not a bad performance for the tesla… wouldve loved to see more T trucks but this was the most comprehensive ive ever seen.

Experience with that? Issues? Specs? Pics? Do you trickle charge or do you have a dual phase going to it?

The BMW i4 is somehow uglier and $30k more.

None so far. Have level 2 charging at home via a 50amp nema 14-50 outlet.

Model 3 dual motor / long range in midnight silver metallic.

"Long term" needs to be defined before any such comparisons are made. That graphic shows a 6-year span, which is only "long term" to the TikTok generation :)

An average 200-series should run 20 years without issue. An average EV will have its battery replaced 2x in the same time frame. And the cost of those batteries is frequently more than the cost of the whole EV at the time of replacement. Some EVs may be more economical, some may not be; lots of variables in play.
Who on here has owned /kept a land cruiser more than a few years? I buy mine for life but i sense a serious majority of buyers still look at it as ‘just a car’ with a normal short term replacement cycle. I bet most don’t keep them longer than 3-5 years.

I think LC is different crowd, but yeah there are crazy amount of LX lease returns. That will never make sense to me.

Lease BMW, Merc, Range i get it. And they have frequent redesigns and new bells and whistles, but a Toyota product?

Thanks for saving me thousands!!!

@tbisaacs @coleAK @TeCKis300

Just rented a model 3 dual motor for this business / weekend trip to houston for the price equivalent of the gas round trip in the LX 🤣.

Any tips n tricks? Charging caveats?

This will be a great extended test drive, and i don’t have to fix my shocks in a rush today out of paranoia as a bonus….

Ill let y’all know how it goes… I dont think anything quite beats the current value proposition for an EV commuter. If i like it, its probs getting ordered.

Depends on the definition of "most" but I seem to remember the landcruiser consistently topping the "length of ownership from new" charts for a long time.

My old fire station territory was generally pretty well-off and had a whole lot of 200s. Quite a few of those were early in the 200 lifecycle, though I wouldn't know their mileage.

Keep an open mind and enjoy the future. Tesla does things differently so use cases may not be as expected. They are all well thought out and refined however, so just roll with it.

It's a noisier sportier car, so while it easily has he speed, it doesn't have expensive GT level cars of quiet and smooth at higher speeds. Still easy to drive, especially with Autopilot helping out against fatigue.

Charging - not sure if you're road tripping? Just follow the Tesla guidance on the map for charge stops. Though it is very conservative. Don't bother charging full as it's fastest to charge in the lower 80% of the battery capacity. So I often push further to the next charging station. Note the types of chargers they have and what their Kw charge speeds are. Overall, don't bother babying too much for efficiency as hot and fast is the way I like to drive. Just don't go overboard as serious speed and acceleration can really really burn energy...just like a gas car. :)

@AnyMal

I had zero desire for kids or marriage myself… somewhat black pilled, even told my now wife that on our 1st or second date. Had first kid at 40 and second 13 months later. Now I’m a white pilled SAHD and wish I had 10 kids… maybe even a EV for the wife in a few years.

Whole thread is awesome, thanks Artie!

The only comment ill add to this discussion here is avg age of USA domestic fleet on road has crossed 12 years. Highest of all time.
Not that the LC is not the best thing ever, it may just be.... but the 25 year design life "guarantee" is not as extreme of a gap as it once may have been.
Still probs at least double, but things have gotten better industrywide somewhat... miraculously even for BMW.

If cash for clunkers hadn't destroyed the some of trucks from the best domestic era ever though, i think the landscape would be even more wild.

Yeah, i especially want to test run the charge network. Not that AUS-HOU is enough to deplete the range.
But i want to give the whole ownership experience a go.

Thanks P.

That happened when I was still wandering parts yards for various toyota mini-truck or early rx7 parts. The number of perfectly fine 2nd gen 4runners in those yards.. 1st gen too. It was a really sad thing.

I wonder whether it was more difficult to kill the engines in the toyotas than the other cars..

Liquid glass! Hurts to even think about that travesty of an "environmental program"...

I cry thinking of the number of formally soccer mom/dentist owned fj60s and 62s that met their demise in cash for clunkers. :cry:

That program was an absolute clunker.
