Would you trade in your Land Cruiser for a Rivian R1S/R1T?

I agree about the first part of that statement, but only partially with the second part. It's ultimately bean counting on what they can get away without losing too much market share. If the statement was totally true, then Apple would not have their NFC locked down for other app's to use. They willfully inconvenience the customer to ensure more market share.

I agree with bloc about ownership. If I bought it, I expect to fully own it. Apple has been doing this to the customer from the get go. You cannot legally install an Apple OS on non Apple hardware. Period. As more tech makes there way into EV's and everything else for that matter. All these companies are moving towards the Apple way of doing things to "trap" the consumer into their eco system of products. They do it slowly and calculatedly. Once they know they have the consumer, they slowly tighten it down. Most people don't notice it, and most who do just deal with it like the sheep they are (and call it even cause they got fart noises)

As I said, generally keep consumers happy. That doesn't mean we get every specific thing our way. Hence the rub right?

I assume you're not using an old candy bar phone? So what kind of sheep are you?

Wow...aren't we a bit testy. It was not meant as a personal shot at you. If you took it that way, that's on you. I use an android phone. It isn't mine personally, it is for work and a necessary evil.

What I meant was it is a slippery slope and most don't catch it until too late and are too invested to do anything even if they do. That's how it works. Accepting it is part of the problem.

Sorry if it came off that way. Just pointing out the double standard. We're all sheep in this modern age. The question is the degree of which, and I get each individual has their own threshold (if they're even conscious of it to your point).

Hers another one i just got in a reddit feed today:

“intel pay as you go cpu upgrades”
So they can build one die, and introduce this lockdown control to sell “features” which will quickly turn into “must have performance enhancements” to use X Y or Z.

If you don’t believe this future of perpetual servitude is here then i have a bridge to sell you. This must all be vehemently opposed. The more you pay into it, the more we will all pay for it in the end. This life as a service momentum is building up in so many industries.

There's a flip side to this. Like a smartphone, is going to have its pro and cons.

There's additions Tesla has pushed in their software updates since we've bought it. The car I own today is very much a better car than the one I bought new. Not just trivial things, but substantial material things. Car is literally faster 0-60. Got more range. Charges faster. Autopilot was great when I bought it on freeways, but now it's confident even on secondary roads. Got camping mode. It'll fart. All the little things add up to be considerable, and best of all has been free. I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that's only the tip of the iceburg of new features its gotten. Which is why legacy car companies are struggling to keep up. Manufacturers and even reviewers benchmark a Tesla at a moment in time, but the reality is continuing to improve.
I’m all for Tesla winning. As a stock they’ve done decently well for me.

Of all the “predictions” taco bell is by far the funniest. There is a taco bell cantina right here in Austin!

EV has a LONG way to go before it's usable long term for everyone. As much as the 200 is a gas hog, the Rivian range just isn't there. Neither is the range of the Tesla, or Lucid, or any of those.

I saw an R1T on the local streets yesterday. At first I thought "wow! that's a nice Ridgeline refresh." Then it passed me so I could see the rear end completely. I'm not in a position to buy any of them, but I am glad more stuff like this is hitting the market.

I just watched Doug Demuro's review of the R1S and just put down an order. Not going to get rid of the LCs, but give them a playmate. I guess I have a while to wait.

Anyone been in an R1S or driven one? @mcgaskins what are your thoughts?

My buddy is a business owner in Austin and the surrounding areas and he's told me about this in more detail, it's insane. Politicians getting away with crimes that every day people would get strung up on in a matter of days and yet nothing ever happens to them.
It's not just Austin. Your Attorney General has been under indictment for felony securities fraud for SEVEN years, yet he's not only still the AG, but he's going to get re-elected!

Test drove a R1T and was thoroughly impressed.
The gear tunnel is so much more then a novelty. Super awesome and has so many uses.

I've never owed an EV so I don't have a ton to compare against.

I have an order in for an R1S from last year. Hoping for delivery mid late next year.

Its for my wife, so will be a pretty rad soccer mom car to haul our 3 kids.
Can't wait to see it side by side with the LC200 as I do think the R1S is as close to an electrified LC out there.
The fact that it has a split tailgate sold me on it. I still am dumbfounded why the LC300 got rid of it, but not a problem we have to worry about I guess....

Range and towing are pretty much useless for the demographic on this forum
You are probably traveling 1.5 hours for every 45 min of charging if towing and maybe 2.5-4.0 hrs of driving to every 45min if just hauling family and gear so makes no sense as a true outdoor vehicles.

But I do plan to try to use it for close by camping trips just for fun.

Rivian needs to update their maps software interface and build a much more robust charging network like Tesla.
But even then its only good for quick weekend camping trip to a local state park or maybe a day trip with a couple hours of offroading.

Been seeing lots of them on the local streets in the Denver metro. Saw my first f150 lightning in person a couple weeks ago too. There's even a used Rivian on CL right now (ala ford bronco). My DD is electric, so I fully understand the benefits and limitations. Electric road-tripper is a no-go for years to come. Though I would do some local single-charge camping in an electric truck.

Saw a R1S in the flesh the other day. I've warmed up to the Rivian styling seeing them in person and it's a looker. It's not as big as the 200-series, but as a skateboard architecture, probably has more usable space.

Still partial to Tesla and the CT is what I'm looking for. I'm not a truck guy, but seating for 6, plus the flexible sealed bed makes for interesting possibilities. For overlanding and longer trips, Tesla's network makes that a more realistic possibility today than any other make.

Have you seen an R1S in Denver? I've seen lots of the R1Ts around, but no SUVs yet. Didn't even see any when I drove past the Rivian lot about a month ago.

Yeah, I'm not looking at the Rivian to do everything the LC does. Just something to complement it. I can't stand the looks of the Cyber Truck and I'm not a pickup guy. This fits the bill for me.

R1S deliveries to non employees just started about a month ago.
(as you can tell I've got my ear to the ground to try to gauge delivery)

I think like the R1T deliveries will trickle (like now) but ramp up pretty quick....but the preorders of R1S are supposed to be higher then R1T
Some R1T orders from 2021 have already been filled.

I see at least 2-3 pickups here in SoCal a week.
Haven't seen an R1S in the wild yet. They do have one on display at the Rivian hub in Venice Beach but I haven't gone down there yet.
I went to the Service center in El Segundo and when I went for the test drive a couple months ago they said they had delivered one R1S but I think that was to an employee.

But I agree look at it for what it is. Can't replace a long range weight hauler like the LC. And can't compare range when filling gas take 5 min and charging to 80% takes 45min to 1hr. Some of the posts have the wrong expectations.

But as a EV around town human hauler and a short day/weekend tripper it's got a ton of potential.

I test drove a R1T back in May. I wasn't very impressed. Maybe my expectations were too high, or maybe I need another test drive. The media display was having issues during my test drive. I daily a Tesla M3 for work and I drive a lot. I have done roughly 70k miles in the last 2 years and I typically drive my 200 on weekends. The R1T just felt heavier than I expected. I wasn't a fan of the regen braking, although I later found out there is different settings for that. I see a ton of R1T's here in OC/LA and I do not love the style, but an EV truck would really suit my work needs. never been a ford fan, but I do like the idea of a full Sized Truck EV.

I think the Rivian vehicles look amazing. That a startup up automotive company released those 2 vehicles as their first ever cars, and are actually delivering them (on whatever schedule) is truly astonishing. I am very impressed.
No, you can't take any EV on a long off-road excursion yet, but almost nobody in the general population does that. Bravo to Rivian, and I'm proud to see an American company pull that off.
I am curious why their stock is not doing better, but I view buying individual securities as a close cousin of gambling in any case. Not my thing.

I drove a R1T back in June in Seattle. It is very well thought out, the gear tunnel, storage, … it’s awesome. Did have some interface glitches but similarly to when I first got both my Model S and Model 3, all were fixed with OTA updates.

I have a reservation on a R1T max pack, cybertruck, and Silverado EV. I’ll keep my LX but planning on going to 34-35’s and rarely driving it.

Yep, major crook.
