In addition to being a hell of a driver my dad was also a good engine guy. But like many of us he simply had no patience for slowing down to make sure everything was spotless. As a teen I would sneak down to the shop to do cleaning and painting so it would at least look good for the first race.

I remember the 4 banger very well. He could make it sing like an opera star. The only 4 banger I can remember that took "Top Eliminator" at more than one dirt/mud drag race event..

More clean&paint ....

Some conversation with my son in the not too distant future .....

"Hey Dad, what's elbow grease?"

"Well, do you remember the time dad spent half the day cleaning the 1FZ oil pan?"

"You mean the day I learned that new word?"

"What new word?"

"Mother%&*#!sonofa#@^%#"

Looking good Rice, those words have a familiar ring o_O

@Rice have you used that paint on frames or axles, leaf springs? Long term results? I am always on the hunt for better paint products. Quarts? Thin with acetone?

Hi Stan.

The chassis paint is exclusively what I used on the frame and axles of the 40. Aside from it being dirty right now you can get an idea. I sprayed this in 2001. Note, the paint on the OME springs is what came on them out of the box.

The stuff is pretty thin right out of the bucket so I shot it straight, no thinner.

A little closer to ready. Rear main seal and upper pan complete. Paint was still wet on the lower pan; it and the oil level sensor will go in tomorrow.

In case anyone is trying to cross reference bearing numbers .... this is the bearing for the A/C tensioning pulley.

(Original bearing is NSK 6301DU2. SKF = 6301 2RSJEM)

Bearing pressed into pulley. Note ... if you ever go shopping for snap ring pliers, don't skimp. These are awesome.

Align all your marks ....

Then slide distributor into place along with a new rotor button. Initial spark time is now set.
