My front differential failed and my mechanic can only find replacements with high mileage or from the east coast with salt corrosion or a rebuild that gets bad reviews here . Can anyone recommend a good replacement? Thanks!

I think you can still get new units from Toyota….but I assume you don’t want to do that because of cost?

I ended up going new from toyota on mine. Once I had figured up shipping a used front diff, it wasn’t that much more.

Did it grenade? Chunks when you open it up?

Any more details? What failed and what caused it. I ask because more than once here a mechanic has reported diff or t-case failure and it's been something much more simple.
I had been pulling out some small bushes in my backyard in 4 low and the car and it just hit 200k. It was fine for a couple weeks then all of the sudden it blew up. Thought I had a blowout. There was metal in the diff

Pulling backwards?

Don’t I remember @cruiseroutfit trying to stock some used/rebuilt front diffs?

@cruiseroutfit We’e in need of a front diff for my son’s 04 LC. It started making a whining sound about a month ago so we took
It in to get the diff fluid changed (prob the first time at 180k that we can tell). Our mechanic said it had some metal debris and will need to replace soon. Any help is appreciated. Thx
