Hi, I started to read this forum way before i bought my LC couple of weeks ago. Influenced by great info and pictures i removed running boards almost immediately. Now, it looks somewhat unfinished. SleeSteps are too expensive and heavy (no offroad plans for now) for me to pull the trigger. Is there similarly looking alternative, meaning simple black, not bulky steps? Thank you

Hey David,
Welcome to Mud! We're in the minority, here! I happen to really like the look of my 100, as is, running boards, rear wing, etc. I really don't have any immediate plans to do any hard wheeling and since its the primary family car, i can't afford to beat it up on rocks...yet! For now, I'm enjoying the original styling and beautiful design. My .02 anyway...

Thank you! I would still like to instill some "manliness" into the truck, but no boards look is not working for me

Thanks everybody for super fast responses. Any more ideas, of simple, black steps/boards?

I hear ya, on my 99, it made a huge difference when i replaced the michellins with slightly larger Nitto TGs. Definitely reduced the "station wagon" look. Not sure what size/brand tires you got on it now, our if it'll help get the look you want. The combination of more aggressive looking tires and no running boards is impressive.

ARB steps come to mind.

I would replace tires, but dealer put on new 275/60 R18 Bridgestone Duellers. That must be lamest picture ever uploaded to Mud

David check with the ARB dealers on Mud because I am pretty sure the steps are sold separately from the side rails. The side rails are an add on cost. ARB's site is a little ambiguous with that section IMO. Pretty sure there's a thread in the 100 section with someone who did the steps and then added the side rails too if you want some more pics.

David:
Why don't you look up Bump It Offroad on the internet. The proprietor, Mike Smith, is a really great guy, and he is very familiar with the 100 series. He could fabricate something really low key for you and his prices are reasonable.

David03; your truck looks great sans boards. Embrace the look. Go with it.

:)

Maybe put the running boards back on? I have to imagine that if you haven't gotten rid of them it's the most cost effective option.

I think your truck looks great as is though.

I think it looks great in the pic (but I'm biased). I think if you removed the roof rack it would make for a very clean/low profile look.

Am I missing something here? If you want the look of a side step to finish off your styling, but aren't planning on going off-roading.... perhaps the factory steps are exactly what you need/want?

I actually really liked the factory steps. I do trails though so the steps had to go and will soon be replaced with some Slee Slidersteps. :)

Incredible amount of responses in just one day! Thanks everybody for the help.

I'll consider all options. Most promising for now is to go ARB way. I did find older thread that seemingly implies that indeed steps can be had without side rails. In addition I have ARB dealer not too far, which should save shipping costs. If this will fail, link with TJM steps was helpful as well, might be good solution powder coated.

Thanks again
