After removing the door panel to refoam the speaker the passenger side switch panel will not sit flat. Nothing was broken during removal...and it clips in but sort of sits a few mm up off the leather. Any ideas what the issue is?

Here is how it is sitting "clipped in"

Here are some shots of the switch panel generally in case someone can identify something wrong.

Over time, the vinyl on my door card warped enough that my new/used switch panel didn't sit flat, just like the old one. I'm not sure there's much you can do, other than to cut away some vinyl. You might get a flashlight and study whether the steel clip is fully seating as you press down on the switch panel. I just gave up on mine.

There is a pressed tin reinforcing bracket that's mounted on the door card on the inside, that will deform easily when the door card is removed (ask me how I know....). Make sure that's still solid and not deformed as it will interfere with the seating of the master switch. You could also try to bend that securing clip on the front a little further out to see if it seats, but if you choose to do that make sure to remove it from the master switch before you do it, it's secured with one small bolt/screw to the master switch and you don't want to risk that cracking (ask me how I know that also...).

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll get back out there tonight and see if I can't look at the vinyl, and have noticed in some of the other pictures of the locking clip the clip seems to be oriented exactly vertical - I may have to put it in the vise and straighten mine out.

When it is more vertical it will make a smaller space between the top of the clip and the bottom of then switch plate. Less space means it will grab better. The clip must be in a position to be wide enough to still clip the edge and tall enough to keep it seated down if that makes sense. Notice the fixed rear clip has a smaller amount of space than the spring clip side. Make them more equal and as long as the surfaces are ok, this should work.

Update - bent the clip so that it is now vertical, same result. It doesn’t look like it’s hitting anything below. Has anyone fixed this by bending the clip forward rather than vertically?

The metal piece that anchors the clip on the door panel doesn’t seem to be warped to me.
