Removed all heater elements. Is this going to work? (1 Viewer)

Hey, Gang. 78' fj40. Removed all heater components in anticipation of installing vintage air sometime in the near future. With how all the hoses are ran now, will this pose any problems? Blue hoses for reference. It starts up and runs fine (10-15 minutes is the most it's ran), but haven't driven more than down the street a hundred yards and back as brakes and suspension are also in the works.

In reality none of it is needed but it will work just fine the way that you have it.

I wouldn’t run the T and line to the block drain on the driver side. Just from the lower radiator hose to the back of the head then cap the other line off the water pump (assuming that’s where the line with the bolt is coming from) or better, get a non-oil cooler water pump.

The port on the side of the block is a drain and plugged from the factory.

The port at the rear of the head feeds the heater core which has no circulation when the valves are closed. So effectively plugged.

The lower radiator hose nipple is the return to the rad/water pump from the heater core and can subsequently be capped.

You have an “oil cooler” water pump with the unused port already plugged.

All of the necessary cooling is internal to the engine block and head.

Thank you for the knowledge. Contemplating removing it (hoses and capping where need be) all then to help clean up the engine bay. Yay or Nay?

Personally, I would just run a heater hose from the outlet to the inlet on the engine, essentially a loop, without capping anything. Simple, less to leak, easy to fix, offers a tick of cooling. My .02.

To add to @71-CRUISER info above - If I'm not mistaken, you could install this part (16577-61030 - see photo below) between the radiator outlet hose and water pump inlet hose, and omit that blue tubing all together. You would need to use a plug (90345-54021 - NLA) at the cylinder head and use a non-oil cooler (Aisin WPT-063) water pump, if you run a clutch type fan.

Yay. Cap them all off.
My South African truck had no heater from the factory and they're all either blocked or non existent.
The pump moves water around the whole engine and radiator.
Don't run a loop of pipe in place of your heater - this essentially bypasses your radiator; unless you want it to overheat in the summer of course.
