Hey.... I want to share a great fix on my 1970 40 series steering column. This is super inexpensive and easy. @Cruiser Cult makes this bushing replacement that holds the column in place properly up by the horn ring. If your steering wheel jiggles and sloppily knocks around a bit in the column, this bushing is likely the issue. I guess they can be worn, but mine was flat out missing. What an instant improvement to feel of the steering with the wheel feeling secure instead of it bumping around. I already posted about their horn ring contact set, which is also awesome. Big thanks to @Cruiser Cult for making these parts and supporting the community. Give their stuff a look so we can continue to support those who support us.

Did you take pictures of the install?
Here is a pic of it installed in the rubber bushing that is at the end of the pre-72 steering columns.

Do you have a part number for that bushing ? I need that part.
We are making them and they will be on our site soon. @Kringle tested this prototype for us before we made more. :)

I guess I need to order one and tear mine alrt and see what I have going on.

Mine needs something, I assume it’s this. I have not torn it apart to find out though.

I don’t get where this bushing actually goes and how it eliminates the slop?
Is this only an early model year issue or does it extend into the later 70’s and early 80 year steering columns?

At the end of the steering column on the 72 and earlier rigs is a thick rubber bushing, followed by a metal bushing, followed by this last inner plastic bushing. The long steering shaft from the box needs this last support to not have side to side slop at the wheel. Later 40s use a bearing if I am not mistaken. Over time this thin (and never lubed) plastic bushing wears thin and allows side to side play at the wheel.
If you take the steering wheel off this bushing system is right there at the end. :)

Will the rubber bushing be available on your website as well?

I think in this post on another thread @Cruiser Cult is saying that @CruiserTrash is making that rubber part??? But not sure.
I'd actually like to know if that's the case also and how much that part costs.

Yup! It will be. We are collaborating with @CruiserTrash on making the fat rubber bushing a reality. :)
