I would like to document the dimensions of the various stock steering components from relevant Toyota 4x4s (Cruisers and trucks/4Runners). Please specify the model and year that you measure...

I know most of this info must be out there in various threads but I thought it might be useful all in one place.

Looking for stock measurements of:

Tie rod:
length of tube part of rod
tube diameter
Thread size/pitch

Relay rod:
length of tube part of rod
tube diameter
Thread size/pitch

Drag link (FJ40/45/55):
length of tube part of rod
tube diameter
Thread size/pitch

Steering arms:
knuckle stud diameter/pitch
Rod end hole top & bottom measurement

and anything else you think is relevant.

Thanks in advance,
mark

Can anyone with a 40 that's handy fill in the info on the LENGTHs of the drag link and relay rods for me? RTH....

Thanks!

x2 can anyone complete this info?

I could currently use the stock drag link length on a 75 FJ40

The installed lengths are in the FSM.

Standard drag link length is 33.7 in.
Relay rod length is 33.1 in.
Tie rod length is 47.4 in.

Are these the "standard" lengths rod end to rod end when adjusted properly for toe-in or are these the raw rods?

Those are the standard installed lengths, TRE c-c. I do understand that you are asking for the individual component lengths, diameters, and threads.

Spotcruiser,

Thanks for the info, but this is a little bit curious to me.

Not to hijack the thread or get too far off topic, but I have several drag links (rod only) that are 29.5 in. in length.

This length fits pretty well with your numbers from the FSM of 33.7 in. C-T-C with the ends installed.

However, I have seen several vendors selling FJ40 drag link conversions that have an SAE thread on the pitman arm side and a Metric thread on the PS side that claim they are the "stock length" of 25.5 in.

With the Saginaw box being placed further out on the frame horns than the stock steering pivot, why would these be 4 in shorter in length?

Obviously I understand that the pitman arm can come into the equation, but seems like a fairly big difference.
