I have a fridge in the garage and don't want it to turn into a freezer this winter. Any ideas on how to keep the fridge part from freezing? I'm in MN and I don't want to heat the garage all winter.

And this will... Keep the inside a bit warm and keep the compressor running to keep the freezer cold?

You want to keep it above freezing right?

The light will warm the inside but probably not enough to run the compressor.

Can't you just raise the setting on the thermostat inside the fridge?

Maybe throw a blanket over it and use it to trap the fridge heat;)

If you don't want your reefer to freeze, light it up!:D

move it to your kitchen, where it's warm and cozy... :D

why is it so cold in your garage? insulate the dang thing....! :) do you have water pipes in there?

(you have to admit this is a pretty ironic topic, no...?)

The wifey is not to cool with the idea of having two refridges in the kitchen.

Not really ironic, If the garage gets to the point where the temp is 36 or so which is where the fridge temp usually is and the compressor doesn't go on the things in the freezer will melt. If it gets below 32, the things in the fridge will freeze. So.... here is the solution. 15 watt appliance bulb and disconnect the door switch to keep the bulb on. This keeps the fridge from freezing and keeps the freezer cold.

Answer supplied by rusty_tlc and my Brother in Law who doesn't have a shread of mechanical ability.

with your well-known fab abilities, it should be a piece of cake for you to turn this into a 2 doors / 2 compressors unit! :)

Interesting topic...I always wondered how they dealt with pop machines that were outdoors in places where it freezes, since a hard freeze will explode a pop can (wife has only exploded 10-15 in our freezer)...so I wonder if the fancy pop machines actually have heaters to keep the pop from freezing?

Thanks for the compliment but I think you are yankin my chain;p. If I can bend it, weld it and grind off all the mistakes, or cut it with a reciprical saw, glue it, drive in a few screws and sand the s@*t out of it, I'm fine but that's about as far as my fab skills go:doh:.

I do have a killer camp kitchen that I made that I'm going to be posting on the board soon so stay tuned for that. I'm sure everyone will want one and I will be happy to make one for anyone that wants one. Fits perfect in the Mill trailers and in the back of the cruiser. Here's a teaser.

 Think about that for another minute...

:whoops: I remembered reading an article about a guy installing a thermostatically controlled light bulb inside the fridge.
