i’ve been having a few fuel issues these last few weeks with starvation. i replaced filter and pump and no better so i went upstream as there seemed to be a blockage. i pulled the tank last night and cleaned it out. put some compressed air through all the lines. finally it’s running right again maintaining a nice 6 psi even under heavy load.

so to celebrate i did an easy upgrade that give me some satisfaction. drivers mirror is cracked and won’t stay put in a wind and the glass was getting worn too.

so new mirror

then tinker a little. i took the temp fuel gauge off and put it where its supposed to be.
IMG_8003.jpeg
then a few little adjustments to wipers and dash lights etc.

it ran well tonight but i see my temps climbing as my weather is getting warmer. i’ll have to look at getting a fan shroud that fits. if i dont have anything i’ll make one i guess.

as each of my kids turns 13 i do a trip with them. my oldest did a bike trip. my middle wanted to go fishing. so today we went! we drive 450km and settled in south west saskatchewan at cypress hills. we’ll be here for three days camping and fly fishing together.

ran a little hotter than i’d like through some hills. i really need to put a fan shroud on. or i have an electric fan not being used i could wire up. one more thing for the list

return trip today. crazy windy. i need to do the door seals on the passenger side to tighten things up. it whistled like crazy. otherwise red did pretty well no dramas at all. cold morning so coffee was necessary after pack up
IMG_8738.jpeg

now the secret truth about the trip was it was absolutely awesome but i’m not 25 anymore. after casting all day for two days, sleeping on the ground and riding in a 40 for 9 hours in four days my back is so sore. i literally just got off the floor trying to get the spasms to release 🤣

just want the world to know that reality is not always what is shown in blogs and photos!!

it’s really old and cracked. i have new stuff from city racer but only got my drivers door done so far. i have some adjustments to do on hinges and strikers on both sides but the rubber needs changing for sure! i haven’t had time to be without a door while i reseal it. i can at least drive my summer car now and dig into this. i need to get the weather stripping all done put new brake cylinders on the rear and rebuild knuckles. all before snow flies here. hope that’ll hold off till nov!

l finally had some time to to work on red. the rear brake cylinders are leaking like crazy so time to fix that. they fell apart as i took the shoes off!! pretty simple fix but the hard line to the axle was seized and of course broke taking the nut out of the old cylinder. thankfully i have stuff to fix it! or so i thought. i cant find my brake fittings. so i’ll have to go get a few more to restock. i started flaring but can’t finish yet

i fear i smell some gear oil too. so i wonder if my axle seals need to be done. not today but i’ll keep an eye for more wet spots now that the brake aren’t leaking.

i just ordered much of the last parts i needed including a pitman arm puller. i decided against making my own bracket and just ordered one of the jtoutfitters ones. i have too many other things one the go to make one so ill just 💵 up. i’ll just need to get hoses made when i have the box mounted.

little more work done tonight. got the pitman arms off both the mini truck box and the fj40 box. my son helped again tonight so he hooked up the new rear brake line. i taught him how to make it so he built the line. i did the second one when the other main line broke taking it off to do the brake cylinders on the other side.

i’ll finish up bending the new long line and get installed this week. i’ll get him to help adjust and bleed them then too

power steering parts will be here in the next week i hope

rear brakes are done, bled and adjusted. i hade to make two new hard lines but that’s all done. i have to out it together enough to drive it outside we have a family reunion next weekend that my family wants to use the garage for serving food. so i’m not allowed to have my unfinished project sitting there. i thought it’d be a great conversation piece but i guess the smell of brake clean and whatever oil leak leaves a puddle that day don’t mix with breakfast food! i’m still waiting on some of the brackets i need for the steering modification so ill move it out for now and get back to in after my family is all gone

once the steering is finished i need to swap out my rear diff. i found a ton of pinion play!! like 1cm back and forth. i think i know where my deceleration grumble is coming from. thankfully i have a few extras lying around.

dang it i think i got air in my MC. it worked fine before this episode and now my pedal goes to the floor. i can pump it up and it’ll hold but i had a bad feeling i let the MC get too low on fluid. hoped i might have caught it in time but now i think it’ll need to be bled. oh well. these things happen!

mc bled, new fitting on a leaky rear line and rebleed. i’ve got brakes again.

this is what i found for bleeding the MC while it’s still in the vehicle. i only did the rear circuit as its the only one that accidentally got emptied. fronts work fine.

next power steering and replace third member in the rear!!

back at it after a busy week of family and friends. between a bbq and family reunion i had i’ve 100 people through my home last week!!

anyway i got the power steering conversion going again. i’ve pulled the column out and have cut it down and pressed in a bushing from advance adapters. it needed a little sanding on the inside to fit over the steering shaft.

we got the old box out and the bracket off. now i need bolts for my new bracket. that’s what’s holding me up today. i would have hoped that they would have been included with the bracket but alas they are not!! oh well

i’m going to use one of these weldon u-joints to connect it to the new box.

so now that i’m stuck till i can get to town i decided to paint my gas tank for the chevelle. it was out to fix a fuel pump problem and with the enabling of my son things snowballed here too!

POR15 first then i’ll go grey topcoat

almost done!!

with my boys help we got the bracket bolted up, got the box on, adjust and adjust, recut the column to fit, adjust adjust adjust. then once i was happy i tacked the mounting bracket to the tube and tacked the ujoint on to the steering column. had to enlarge the tube hole on the firewall bracket to get it to sit flush and cover the bolt holes. welded it all in place. now waiting for it to cool. then i just have to drill holes and seal up the firewall bracket and mount the pump. i’ll have to get hoses made this week and we’ll be up and running.
