IIRC, Dodge frames & suspensions of that timeframe, on their pkups, were inferior to Ford & GM, so you might live to regret that decision. Might be better to just swap engine, tranny and xfer. Or continue your original project.

I see that some members find my thoughts humorous. Yes, I will continue forward with all Toyota. We know the 1FZ is good for a whole lot more than the factory gave us. I can’t deny that I’m a huge fan of the 5.9 Cummins though.

That 5.9 Cummins is the 6BT model, correct? If so, I’m with you on that. The diesels normally have more low end torque than gasoline engines. I love the 7.3 L in my F350 and can Imagine having a similar engine in my 80 series! The 1FZ is a marvel for its low end torque, but I believe the 6BT would be even better!

Oh yeah a bone stock 92 6bt makes, I believe, 420lbft at about 1500rpm. The 1fz tops out at 275lbft at twice the rpm rating. Forget all that. It’s my understanding that some diesel nuts have regretted a 6bt swap bc the engine is very heavy so they swapped to a Toyota diesel. Ok, Christmas is past and I need to get going on this. My next decision is whether I will bolt the transfer case to the transmission now or after the engine and trans are in. I removed the power train all in one shot and I remember it was quite heavy at the tail end.

I like the idea of the PHH by-pass. It worked out well on the 93 so I’ll do it on this build. The hose is Aeroquip Weatherhead. It has a very durable outer cover.

I love rhat for anyone that loves dodges. I have never, hands down never, wheeled with a dodge or dodge powered vehicle. I'm not against it, but most of what I see are Toyotas and Rover, with an occasional aspirational Ford owner.

@CharlieS I come to tears with laughter at the comments Dodge garners. I always thought their cars were ugly. Have you ever checked out a 426/4spd/Dana60 Road Runner? It’s a massive sleeper. Dodge/Chrysler has always been an outlier but bringing new ideas to market.
If you pay attention out there on the highways you will notice Dodge/Cummins dominates the Hot Shot hauling group by far. If the heart is strong and healthy the rest is a matter of personal adjustment. My Dodge is a 2005 built right in the sweet spot where the power train isn’t overly managed and the cab is better than the first Gen’s. Current diesel pick ups are better in many ways but the part that makes money is a pain in the wallet and not fun for doityourselfers. I don’t know what people mean when they say dodge sucks. They offer a platform that outright performs if it does require some attention. My Cummins is a very early 2005 so it’s been on the road 20 years. I have replaced a lot of parts but there is always an upgrade for a truck that was designed to be a builders vehicle. Currently there are zero issues to deal with. She sits and waits for my nudge and always responds positively.

I wasn't trying to talk trash about Dodges. I just don't see them on trails.

I've only owned one (a 1500 pickup, bought it used from a dealer, and the transmission was shot. They bought it back from me. I haven't tried again since.)

I didn’t assume you were ribbing me but that @mudgudgeon guy was. You buy a used car and there’s that pretty much. Whose fault is it that a transmission, or a power window doesn’t work? I have been maintaining jets for 4 decades. If anything is built well they are yet they require constant attention and parts replacement in order to keep on. I love parts. I think Toyota and Dodge know that.
