Quick question for you 70 series folk. I am rebuilding a set of 60 series OEM sliders and I am about done. Just putting the finishing touches on them. I have all the seals and spacers... I also have these little foam/sponge strips. From what I can tell the foam-sponge pieces go on the underside of the frame somewhere but I am not sure. Anyone recently rebuild theirs or know where these little foam pieces go?
Part number is 6222-995j00

And yes the 60 series windows share a lot of the same hardware so that is why I am crossing the boarder into this forum :D

They do go under the steel frame. They go over the drain slots and direct the water out away from the window.

I just did my 70, they have a sticky side. The sticky side goes towards the truck, again so that the water is directed outward. When I bought my parts the diagram showed three per side but it is actually six per side, at least on a 70.

Be sure to use butyl tape on the pinch weld!

Good luck!

Cheers

Awesome! Thank you. I think I understand now. I saw this pic from another thread but wasnt sure if that was how the sponges were supposed to be mounted. looks like those were right.

On a 70 it is not a sponge but a little piece of clear firm plastic.

Cheers
Oh Yeah I have those too! It looked like on the forward drain vents (towards the front of the car) there was clear plastic that covered them. I am planning on doing that. But the back 3 vents (the ones past the center wiper post) have no such plastic covers (or any evidence of it that I have ever seen) and that is where I was questioning the inclusion of the "sponges". Hmmm, the plot thickens.

Did you just do the plastic covers on all the drains?

Yes I did.

There was no foam in them when I took them apart and none shown in the parts diagrams. So I think the foam is specific to 60-series. The Troopy and 73-series have a different style for the sliding windows. All the drains on my 70, six per side, had the little clear plastic strips over them. I bought new ones. The only part NLA for 70's was a little rubber pad at the top center divider in the steel frame, over the top of where the tiny screw goes. For those I carefully removed them from the old frames and siliconed them to the new ones.

Cheers

Awesome thanks. I am going to just put the plastic on all the drains. After trying to research these windows over the past couple years there seems to be a lot of little variations across years (even within the 60 series) but over all the same basic design and parts. Like some center posts take top and bottom screws, or some take two bottom screws and a top screw. mine takes only one top screw. Weird stuff like that. Anyways, thanks again! :D

Same with the 70’s man. Maybe more so since much longer run of the series and way way more model variations. Some 60 to 70 parts do crossover as well.

FYI, mine only have one screw for the divider and it is up top.

Cheers

I was not able to find the rubber seal that adheres to the outside of the window frame.
Did you find a source for that piece, meant for FRP top?
You can check this thread, Post #38 BJ73 FRP windows

Hey FYI, I think the foam is what the FSM & parts books call a spacer. Mine didn’t have any in it and it was NLA so I went without.

Mine are in now.

No butyl tape used on a SWB 70.

Drains work well and no leaks on the new ones.

Cheers

Maybe the side windows in my FRP top are different.

I am looking for these parts

They are getting scarce for sure. I waited too long for my 60 sliders. I don't think Toyota
ever thought the BJ74 would make a popularity resurgence and people would rebuild them
