rebuilding a rusty roof

Great work! :) This is the first best roof repair I've seen. I'm stunned that you have done this with
the headliner in. There are no drains on the gutters as far as I know. Usually they aren't deep enough
to really accumulate, and then using a really good seam sealer/primer/paint should certainly keep it
rust free from now on.

IMO, caulk failure in the bottom of the rain gutter led to your rust - rather than the fact that the gutter doesn't completely drain. But, you could grind the 4 corners down (of the gutter lip) to let it more fully drain. Park it indoors, too, and dry the gutter after washing the truck.

Nice work! Wish i had your skills!

Drivers rear corner finally starting to come together. Still no rust on the inner roof, but the drip rail and outer roof a few inches up from the drip rail needed replacing.

Just found this inspirational thread. I admire the tenacity. Are there updates?

If you check the build thread in my signature line (saving another FJ60) I documented my rusty roof and rail repair. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help and inspiration! I did finally end up finishing the roof at last, here are a couple pics of the drivers rear corner coming together.

Awesome!
I have similar issues with my 62.

I don't have the skills, tools or time to tackle it.
I am going to keep an eye on this however, so I can provide it to the body man that IS going to tackle it.
He's an old school bodywork artisan. Uses metal fab skills like an artist uses a brush. This is going to be a HUGE help.

Great work and thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

WOW AMAZING WORK

i have two 60 that I have to do this to ... and my third is starting to pop some ...I wanted to see the tubing before you opened it ... the drip rails is what has always stopped me from doing it .... i even thought about "shaving" them

That's very cool, thanks for all the pics they are helping me to get my head around it,
want to do this on my dads old 60

I am glad to help out and that is good to hear, let me know if you need some drip rail/ or corners pieces I make or some advice on the process.

Thanks,
Sean
