I have a new/old 72 cruiser, it starts ok, but if I stop it when warm it doesn't like to restart, it acts like it's flooded. I have a friend that put a weber 38-38 on his cruiser and loves it. I don't care to have more power, I just want it to start and run. Should I rebuild what I have or get a weber? I read on FAQ about the 38-38 and a 32-36, what carbs will fit on my cruiser? Are those different carbs or different jetting settings? I live at about 5,500 ft elevation, any suggestions?
Thanks,

Just rebuild the carburetor you have.

Did you ever get the rear differential leaks taken care of?

Rebuild what you have.
Also, I used to have that warm-start problem...sometimes the choke would help, don't know why.

keep the toyota carb

Thanks for all the replys, I guess I'll get a rebuild kit and have at it, what kit do I need?.
As for the rear end leaks, no I havn't gotten to that yet. I'm looking for a nice weekend with no snow.
Thanks again.

I agree with keeping the Toyota carb but is there any way to insulate it from the heat of the stock exhaust manifold? My hot start problems went away with the install of a ManAFre header. Just wondering if anyone has come with an inovative fix for this.

Well even toyota knew it was going to be an issue hence the carb fan. I think the best things you can do is make sure you have a heat sheild on the carb spacer plate and the heat exchange dampner is in working order in the exhaust manifold. Also make sure your carb fan works on 75' and newer trucks.

Keep the OEM Toyota carb. Mark at Marksoffroad.net did a nice rebuild for me. Good luck! Brendon

im just saying...

selling a brand new Weber in the Classifieds right now!!!

won't find a better value!!

check it out

If the carb runs fine otherwise, save your time and energy and focus on getting your truck to run cooler. Your engine will thank you [and your carb too];)

Best

I have a 72 with the original carb, it would run but after shutting down sometimes it wouldn't start and would act like it was flooded. I ordered a rebuild kit and tried to remove, clean up, and put back together as it came apart. I put it back on the cruiser and it will start but I need the (manual) chock almost all the way out or it dies. If I push the chock in the only way it will keep running is if I give it more gas with the pedal. So what did I do wrong???

Does the idle solenoid make any noise when you turn the ignition key to the 'on' position?

I had a daughter turn the key on and it sounded (and felt) like the solenoid did click. Someone recomended a place in California to rebuild the carb, I called there and got an message, does anyone know what he would charge to rebuild it?
Thanks all
