Rear swingout factory bumper brainstorming

Ok. Now that I have my rim all purdy I can't stomach cramming that nice new tire and wheel underneath. I am taking advice / suggestions / materials list / whatever to fab a swingout on the factory rear bumper. I don't want the expense or weight of a whole rear bumper right now. The closest thing I can find on mud is this thread by @SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr

I just want to think of something simple using some easy to get parts. Hmmmm.....

Good luck. It's obviously been done before, so it's doable. I look forward to your results. I'll only add that I love the extra protection and clearance that my 4x4 Labs tire carrier...I mean bumper...gives. Had to trade lots of money for it, though.

I am leaning towards the bumper from Slee off-road ..... It seems like the best option I can find and they are apparently bomb proof
 
Iron Pigs and Slee's are the same class of bumper. If you want to weld it yourself the 4x4 Labs is tough to beat and way less money.
 
If I was in the market for a full bumper it would be IPOR. I had/have a specific plan being worked on. I will post pics/progress as it is built. I want to keep weight and cost down so a full bumper isn't for me right now. I have a good plan though. Swing out will have a mount for highlift behind spare and a telescoping rod for a scene/flood light.

I like the idea of trying something different. The full bumper options are really fantastic, I just want to see where this takes me.

Looks great! Are you re installing the plastic end caps? That would finish it off Nicely!
 
I probably will. I am still trimming some stuff up. Either that or making some metal trim elbows for the ends?.... Not sure yet. Next step is to fabricate a license plate holder with a light for spare carrier. It will need a plug connection to remove it for tire removal. Open to ideas!!!!
 
I think you are gonna want to somehow run something from the end of the swing arm forward to just behind the tire, or make some sort of slider for that piece. I can see that tube steel end getting caught up on a rock or a stump and bending it....forcing your tire into your hatch.

looks like a great start though!
 
I was thinking of doing something like that for mine. But having it hook in the back of the tire bracket somehow. I think it would be hard to unhook it in the tire well.
 
Yea. It looks like there is a clip and push button release so the stem stays on. I'm guessing there is an electric disconnect so you can pop it off. If there isn't I'd add one for sure.
 
Ya it's got a locking pin you will have to reach under the plate and remove. No big deal! But lining up the holes and puting it back in May be a little hard. I was thinking of puting detent pins that you just push in to remove and that snap back into a hole to put it back on.

After looking at som pictures of it mounted it looks like it will work fine for wheels with very little back spacing.
