Rear Seat FJ40 - Need a New Idea!

Hi all, I have used the Dodge Raider/Montero fold and tumble seat in the back of my pervious FJ40 and liked the way it worked - bolt-in and had seat belts intergrated with the seat.

Now I have a "new" 1967 FJ40 and can't find these seats (live in nyc and our junk yard don't keep older cars). I have tried craigslist and ebay, but nothing seems to be available within a reasonable distance.

MY Question: has anyone found a "better" solution form a later model year. My six year old likes to ride in the truck - no offroading or highways, just to local driving - and I would like the safest solution possible.

Old question I know, but just wondering if anyone has found something new that works. I do have to look at the jeep seats, I don't know is how the seat belts work on them.

Thanks for any ideas...yes I searched and read the FAQs.

What about bolting in 1 good bucket back there? Maybe 1 of the Chevy pickup or SUV models that has the integrated shoulder belt?

sami seats, fold up nicely and fit like they were made for the fj

Try IPOF.com (iron pig offroad). They have a nice looking rear seat for a very fair price. I will be getting one some day if I ever get any money ahead.

X2 on the Sami. Same as a later model 2-door Geo Tracker. Plenty of those in all junk yards! Some were even 50/50 split fold & tumble.

How do the "Iron Pig" seats compare to a Con ferr seat? I was looking buy a used Con ferr seat and get it re-upolstered, but that IP seat looks nice, but it also looks more narrow, so can two people sit on it comfortably?

Has anyone ever installed a seat that would be larger then the inside of the fender and sit on top of the fender to be large enough for 3 kids?

New Idea

I did check get a lead on a newer Wrangler seat, but that requires the jeep hardware - jeep and seat - it is a two part system. I can get the parts, but just don't know if they will work in the FJ40 rear.

What is amazing is the Montero/Raider - two door - seats were a perfect fit and had the seat belt intergrated in the seat - both male and female ends. Just hard to find.

I am now looking into the backs of all newer model cars to see if any of them have a system that might work.

Will start searcing for Geo Tracker seats - thanks...

FJ 40 Seeks...

Okay, here is my idea...the Ih8Mud board members...should start looking for montero or dodge raider seats...purchase as many as possible...post them up for sale...heck...we should give the member who finds the most per year...an appreciation award...figure your puchase price + a markup + shipping...We take control of the market and charge "insane" markups to all the clubs seeking these seats - I know Bronco Clubs are looking...shoot...we will make a bundle...heck...we can charge the pirate's big bucks...

I think the Montero seat everyone is looking for is from the OLD ones, like this...

I went with the rear bench seat out of a two door Suzuki Sidekick which fit excellent after I fabricated some mounting brackets. Light weight, decent style and easy to find. Might be a picture or two under ROTW 'alumacruiser'.
