I'm getting ready to make a rear bumper for my pig, with sliders. I was looking for good closeup pictures of what has been done to make the slider/bumper junction look nice, but the only good picture I could find was from fjben. Anyone have any good pics, specifically of the corners where the sliders and bumper join? I would like to see one that curved especially.

Also, when making a rear bumper, do you guys just keep the rear cross member attached? I am going to have to cut mine to make a hitch fit for a pintle hook (towing a small military trailer). The rear cross member looks like it prevents the bumper from being pushed forward as far as possible, every inch of overhang counts on a swine's ass.

What size tubing or channel has worked well for others for the bumper itself? The frame is pretty close to 4", so 4" tube or channel will not slide over that. Six inch channel/tube is kind of large, possibly reducing clearance by 1.5 inches.

I thought the one that was on FjBen's 55 was a good one to work off of. You mihgt want to hit him up.

i have bens bumper sitt'n on the side of my house.
if you need pics i can get you some tomorrow. ;)

not for me, i'm just the one who gets to fab it up to go on someones 60 :D

I've got some pics of mine up somewhere. I'd just post you a new pic but I reformatted the comp and havent put in my photo software yet. Look through my cage build thread theres probably pics in there.

I'm going to endura steel tomorrow (local supplier). I do not have access to a tubing bender, so a design like the one on the pimpomatic zebra pig is out of the question. I'll try to keep to bumper around 4" tall. I think a 3/16" 4x4", notched and capped to fit over the frame snuggly with 2x2" sliders are going to do it. The sliders will bolt onto the frame with an L-shaped piece to bolt onto the side and bottom of the frame. THe spare is staying inside the cab. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

mine started off the frame , I think it was a 4x4 that sliped into the frame and bolted through the existing holes .
Pimpomatic has a bender and is local to you if you need something bent . trade for beer !!!!!!!.

This is why I need a new bumper. After wizzing through fj55-100's birfield bumper gallery, I think reusing the center of the original bumper would be cool. It is already mounted with 8 bolts, evenly spread out, and is plenty buff with the crossmember tucked in there. I am going to do end caps on the original bumper, like evan's rig. The sliders will be the 2x2", .25", like fjbens old bumper. Eventually I would like some side protection, the pig has a fat ass that likes to try to slide into things. Now just waiting for the steel shop to open. And to anyone with a rusty cruiser, I apologize for banging up my rust free rear quarter. But it is ok, the other side has bondo, maybe a gallon or two?

Thanks for posting those pics USM. You can see mine basically is the same thing as bens were just much stouter and with my quarters trimmed. But they go to the wheelwell and then angle down at 45*

So I cheated and did it quick and easy on friday. Four inch tube slides right into the original center of the bumper with help of a sledge, and just got welded to the original bumper. The sliders are 2x2 and are tied into the frame, bottom and side with an L-bracket. It was easy and only cost $30 and some welding wire. I still have some finishing to do to make it look better but painted it anyways with a rattle can since it is supposed to rain this week. It isn't that pretty, but we tested it in Johnson Valley today, sturdy.
