OK...here is a diagram of all that is included with the "base" kit. Should help answer a lot of questions.

thanks for that pic of the layout of cuts. very helpful.

do you have somewhat of a timeline for this project to be ready to ship?

still in.

That diagram helps a ton. Now I see what I'm getting. So, come spindle time, do they just drop in and get welded into place? Will you sell the swing arms in kit form also, or are they simple enough to make just from plans?

i think this is advice worth following on the spindles.

FYI

the only hub/spindle assembly worth using is a IPOR set up.
i've been using a roller bearing set up on most every bumper i've made.
the last bumper i made was going to hold ALOT of fuel, water and propane.
the IPOR (IRON PIG O/R) was soooo much stronger and you could tell that right away.
i will never use a roller bearing spindle again.
IPOR gives me confidence that nothing is going to break off. and i've seen and heard about this.

well worth the $50.

carry on!

Well, I'm FTO as primary the rest of the year so the comp time is gonna pay for this bumper. The parts layout is as I imagined and is perfect because it leaves you with a lot of options for finishing it to your desires.

Quick question,

What are the 3 pieces on the bottom (above the d-ring tabs)? I assume they go on the very bottom of the bumper but haven't seen any pics of it from that angle. Thanks.

I am still in.

If you look at MTN.GOAT's build (page four, post 105), on the first picture, you can see the pieces you are talking about.

Does that help? I don't think I used the thin middle section if I remember correctly. I will have to look at mine again.

I am working with the shop that cuts them for me for an ETA. I will call them again today and find out. I hope that I can ship some in two to three weeks.

Well, kind of. To explain what I did, I bought a spindle with about 4" of additional length. The spindle drops through the hole and butts up against the rectangular sections on the bottom of the diagram. I should number each piece so we can keep track. You have to cut the spindle at the bottom where it meets that piece at about a 15-20 degree angle (I could probably calculate a closer angle, but that is close). Does that make sense?

Curious why people would want to avoid the roller bearings. As long as the spindle is designed properly for the load, roller bearings should hold up longer, and have less play then the bronze bushings IPOR uses. AtoZ Fab sells a pretty nice set, about $45, which I would recommend. AtoZ Heavy Duty spindle They sell a mega-duty one for $20 more which has a 1.500 spindle diameter.

IIRC 4x4Labs sells some beefy roller bearing spindles. However, the IPOR spindle does not have any play, and if you grease it occasionally it shouldn't wear out.

nice work on the bumper, would be awsome to get one over here... but i guess the shipping would kill the joy! I have to figure out a way for me to build one 2" higher due to the BL. Would increase the angle in the back :)

Keep it up, cant wait to see it on other rigs too!

last you knew on Oct 20, you thought these could ship in 2-3 weeks. Is that time line still good? that is in about 10 days........ any updates?

Do the recovery tabs get welded to the bumper face?

Or do the go through the bumper and into the frame channels for added strength when hooked up?
Just curious on the strength issue, if it is just being welded onto the bumper face and it not being actually mounted to the frame.
Looks Good.
