I know.....when I saw your drawing I said"""" thats my bumper!""""
I'll shoot you a PM.

 Once again, great minds think alike

I am still in, Fourrunner.

Thanks Alaska60...

OK, so here goes. I have a list of about 11 so far who are either really interested or somewhat interested. I am out of town right now, so don't have access to the drawings I put together. What I want to do is put together a list of parts/pieces and pictures of those pieces that you would get with the "base" kit. When I mean "base", I am referring to just the lower section without tire carriers. I still need to track down someone who can mass produce the axle spindle. What I might do is let everyone source there own spindle.

On a side note, I will be drafting a release form that I would like people to sign releasing me from the dumb things you might try with the bumper. Everyone OK with that?

OK...so on Friday I will put together a few diagrams showing what pieces you will get for 300 dollars. As mentioned earlier, the carrier will obviously be way more money. Will also call the cutting shop and make sure we still have a go on the run and will final pricing from them as well. I would like to have a firm decision by people who are interested. Here is the list I have so far.

1. Slowerthanu
2. SpikeStripe
3. Jeepgod
4. MoGas
5. 4lux
6. ElliottB
7. Emes
8. LandBruiser69
9. Landcruisin'60
10. 82fj60bigblue
11. Spook50 (maybe)

Just reply in this post and I will PM you individually with more details.

I like the side protection that GLTHFJ60 came up with. I think with a support setup like how 4x4 Labs does theirs, it'd be perfect. Don't put me down as a definite yet, since I have necessary maintenance that I have to take care of before I can buy any new toys (cancer repair on the lift gate and a tcase rebuild being priorities right now). If you go that route, I'm very curious to see what your final price ends up being for a kit.

Also, I remember you saying you weren't sure the overall capacity of the tow receiver. Do you have any plans to beef it up and get it tested (no idea how that would be done) to find out what load rating you can estimate?

As for the receiver, in my plans the bumper is meant to slide in the frame rails and bolt using 6 1/2" bolts per side, and the mounts themselves are 1/2" thick. Behind there is a receiver that goes straight back with two square tubes welded from the back of the receiver to the frame mounts on either side. I think it'll be strong enough.

I would say it looks stout!!!

on the top of the side protection is there a place a person could if they so disired could weld on some tubes that protect higher up the side. just asking is. this is still bad ass reguardless. i agree too super stout...

cheers

Hey Fourrunner, I like your bumper design as is and I am still in for sure. I would still plan on coming up and picking it up as well, as long as the disclaimer doesn't give you access to my wife or my money, I have no problem signing it.

Anyways, just letting you know.

Daniel

If you are still around $300 for the "base kit", I am in.

I like the idea of side protection, but without a price.....

Have you got this designed so that if I buy the base kit, I can add the spindles and swing-outs later without much problem? the holes already cut?

and the same thing for side-protection - can I add it later easily because it is designed to upgrade?

also - the receiver supports GLTHFJ60 has drawn up - make that am upgrade option as well.

I don't mind sourcing the spindles and latches on my own.

He has done his bumper very well.
However, the spindles are welded to the bumber...not recessed in the bumper. So,....if he removes the gates, he has a big spindle sticking up off his bumper.
Check mine out.................The spindles go into the bumper. I am working on this right now. I am supossed to get the latches in the mail today. I will also have the ladder side complete today too. I will post some more photos tonight.
You may want to just build this yourself rather than wait for who knows how long.... Just my personal 2 cents!:hhmm:

jnall, I don't have the ability to do much redesign work at this time. Basically for 300 you get what you see in the 3 page, post #68. It will have everything you see (including the holes for the spindles - can delete those if you like, but would be a total pain to redrill after the fact) with the exception of the latch hardware you see bolted to the middle of the bumper and the tire carrier pivots/spindles.

Ok, so I have these people interested so far:

1. Slowerthanu
2. 4lux
3. 82fj60bigblue
4. jfnall

I got to thinking about shipping and overall design of the bumper. I am only throwing this out there, but what would you guys thinking of making this out of 3/16 versus 1/4 plate? 1/4 plate is such an overkill. Any thoughts?

3. 82fj60bigblue
4. jfnall
5. Tofudebeest

Keep em coming.

are the spindles welded only around the top of the bumper or are they going through to the bottom of the inside for added strength?

i like the 1/4" plan myself. won't be too much added to the shipping cost.

The spindles go all the way through the top plate and but weld to the bottom plate. The spindle is also welded at the top of the plate, under the plate. I think it has plenty of strength.
