Had to pull my rear axle to replace the rear bearing and found some twist on the axle. Is this considered normal or not?

You're in there already, I'd put new axles in if it was me.

Same.

I've seen videos of the axles twisting off all but the part that engages the splines in the diff. I'd think that's the direction you're headed in, eventually.

I’d rather not unless it’s necessary.
Maybe @cruiseroutfit can chime in on this.
Yeah I hear you. I replaced front CVs and it wasn’t necessary, would love to go back in time and tell me to save $800.

I’m not an expert in this for sure, but the axle is already compromised, right? It might be a little or a lot, an expert might be able to tell, but it would suck to have it twist off next time you need it. It

I could be wrong on this but seem to remember the type of steel axles are made of doesn’t get any harder to deform once it starts yielding, it gets easier.

Which is another way of saying.. whatever you did to twist it.. will probably twist it even more next time.

If you intend to keep wheeling it hard you are on borrowed time.

Plus when it snaps under stress it might take your locker with it. $$ now or $$$$ later!

Why would you not replace that if you have it out? The last thing I'd want is for it to fail later inconveniently screwing me in the moment when I could easily fix it now.

Because I would rather spend my money actually wheeling rather than buying a part if it doesn't need replacing. 👍

You do you but I think it needs replacing.

~$560 for an axle and $357 for the bearing, plus a bit more for the retaining collar and some other odds & ends.

Not cheap. But that cost will go up substantially if it ends up actually breaking.

I found a nice salvage axle so I’m going that route👍

Nice. Out of curiosity, Car-part.com or did you find it elsewhere? I’ve had trouble sourcing used 200 parts.

eBay 👍

Seems like a good place to ask, does anyone make an upgraded rear axle?
