Hey guys...looking for some assistance here...My friend has been looking for a 91 HDJ81 in Japan for me. I asked if he could find a 5 speed with the rear a/c option but has not found one in the past 3 weeks. Was this not an option in Japan, or just a super rare option? Would anybody possibly have production numbers? He's found maybe 5% with cool boxes, but none with rear ac. Was there a specific package that included rear a/c? Say if you had X option you automatically have rear a/c? Thanks!

You are looking for hens teeth. Jap spec 5 speed manual. In the Jap spec not common,but WITH rear air con. Very slim chance. I have seen what you looking for in Dubai in a V.X.R. The only one I have ever seen. Look for a V.X limited manual and live with the std air.
From looking at the Toyota EPC, doesn't look like rear AC was an option in Japan. And my experience is that I have not seen one with rear AC in Japan. It was an option in the General market vehicles (Middle East, Australia, etc).

really annoying how toyota does this with all their cars...they give different spec for each market. i'd think to change assembly lines it would take more work than to just give the same specs to everybody...but then again i'm not in the auto industry.

really disappointing...california can get very hot, and i plan to take a few roadtrips to Nevada, Arizona, etc which get to over 110F.

Pretty sure rear AC was only available with the 1FZ engine in Japan. no idea on ability to retrofit.
I thought moegasim had a truck that was originally equipped with rear AC. He was in Khartoum.

no i am not...my parents have a 1995 Previa and anything behind the front seats is a sauna. Even with the rear A/C on. Different vehicle, but if its even half as bad as the Previa...the 3rd row once installed passengers will be complaining.
FYI, HDJ81's either didn't come with 3rd row seating available, or it was a SUPER rare option.

Eggactly, in my case, was often by choice, removed the A/C.
Rear air is available on 100 and 200 series.

I am confident that my 4 legged wheeling companion would love rear air. The rear heat he could care less about.
yes my husky's were requesting rear air in my lx ,least one was the other figured out if you stand between the front seats the air works just fine. makes in hard for the driver to see and you keep getting ambushed by doggy kisses.Has anyone tried to fit the 100 rear ac into and 80?.

Plenty of our 80 have that option down here .. manuals are less common pero rear AC and cooled center console, very common ..
Maybe I'm just weird but I don't use AC living in Texas and when I do the regular old AC worked fine. Driving in the wife's car is a treat to use AC but I prefer windows down even if the AC is functional.
