Guys, in Montana. Half tank gas. Engine runs like champ all day, then sputter and fail and fuel smell in cabin. I read about this several weeks ago. Fuel injector? Leaving it alone for right now.

Please help.

Thanks, Kristy

This was the first time I ever topped off the tank. Ever. My mind was elsewhere I guess.

90 degrees, 5500 ft elevation.

Hate to bump this up, but wondering if there can be preventative work done to avoid running into this on the road. Perhaps new gas cap/seal and charcoal canister (filter?). Wonder what the root cause is though. Will go through those threads again to try and figure it out.

Can the vapor lines not be routed higher so as not to allow downward gas flow into the charcoal canister? Can't help much due to owning a '00, but I agree, there has to be some sort of preventative maintenance that can hopefully prevent this from happening to more people.

I had read similar threads prior to this happening but had spotty service so appreciated being pointed in the right direction by @jLB

Had I been a mile or so down the road I would have not had any service and this would have driven me to tears (a leaf spring on my trailer blew 5 minutes prior).

I was thankful for Mud, and Internet service in general, but it would be great if there was a fix.

I waited 20 minutes and the truck was fine. Hasn't happened since.

My guess is that its a combination of a "perfect storm" - which may happen repeatedly unfortunately. Couldn't find anything :-\

Wonder if @socalmtbiker got any response from his letter to Lexus?

Well, not that it matters but I sent an email out to Lexus about my concerns. I had a reply that I will be assigned a case manager. I uploaded my photos and provided links to serveral threads on this problem. I mentioned that this was not limited to the lx but any of the 100series.

I for one, can't accept it as "normal" for gas to spurt got and not had in having the ability to fill up a tank more than 3/4 full. Will they do anything? I'm not sure, but they won't be able to fix anything if they don't know that the problem even exits.

Anyone that cares enough should send an email to lexus/toyota. I just went on Lexus.com and clicked my way to contact.

When I contacted Lexus they differed mechanical issues to the dealership. They dealt with customer service issues. Since the dealership could not replicate the issue and they replaced the charcoal canister they did nothing further but said come back if it occurs again. I have not wheeled at those conditions again yet.
