Serpentine belt went. All pulleys and tensioner feel good. No play. Part in stock down the road. Belt looks a little burn on non ribbed side. Could have happened after it broke. Anything I should/can check before routing new belt? How easy should my tensioner be to push down by hand? Knees on bumper i can push it down by hand with some resistance.

My Serpentine is 83" parts store says 88" even with toyota part # cross referenced.

???

If it’s abraded on the non-ribbed side, I’d suspect a failing smooth idler (can’t recall if there is one or two). Rotate and listen for clicking, grinding, or resistance. Wiggle to check for axial play. If you spin it hard, the idler should continue on its on own for 7-8 seconds.

The tensioner should move a little by hand, but should require the leverage of a wrench to really compress it. Attach a 14mm socket to the center bolt and push up. Remember it’s a left hand thread, so set the wrench as if you were LOOSENING a regular bolt.

If you need a new tensioner or pulley (and can wait), today is the last day of the SE Dealers 20% off sale. There’s a long thread about these sales, I buy from Serra but there are few others.

This is the correct belt. My last dealer invoice shows both this Bando part # and the Toyota part #. I believe Bando is an OEM mfr. ~$18 on Amazon rn.

I'm on the side of road, came from Oklahoma. Headed back today when belt went

Got it. I have an uninstalled Bando 6PK2240 and it measures about 88”. Maybe you had the wrong belt, or it lost a chunk?

You’ll want to look at that idler and/or maybe pick up a spare belt if you can’t deal with it where you are now. You might get lucky the parts store has it, if it needs to be replaced.

I'm sort of near Kalispell and have a spare belt, let me check and see what's going on here. Do you still need assistance or are you up and running again?

Belt above for the 2UZ shows 2240 which is the millimeter reference and is approx 88"

Tensioner should definitely have a good bit of resistance. A good idler should not spin for 7-8 seconds as mentioned above. A new idler will feel smooth and spin maybe a half or full turn. A bad bearing will free spin like a skateboard wheel...Not much else you can check other than spinning the pulleys and making sure nothing is seized up

Kalispel Toyota dealer is legit. Very impressed. Highly recommend

Fan bracket bearing was going out. I noticed earlier in the morning the fan had a slight wobble. I figured it was the fan clutch going out. Tensioner felt weak, replaced it along with new belt.

Original part 204k. It kills me that i have a full tool set and nowhere to wrench/drain fluids. $820 parts and labor at dealership. A fellow mudder I've never met, lent me his driveway and a spot to camp out, but i don't think my rig could have made it the 50 miles.

BTW if you're ever in Kalispell (hopefully not broken down) Mooses Tavern has great pizza and beer on tap.

Glad to hear you're getting it sorted out. No need to feel bummed, swapping a fan bracket on this motor is definitely not a far from home / roadside repair type of job..Coulda been worse, at least its getting fixed and you've got some views of the mountains while you wait

Indeed. We drove up to Lake Louise before heading back. Amazing. Stayed at my 1st hostel. Private rooms with toilet/sink. Clean. Very impressed. Cafe there had good food as well. Hi Alpine Hostel.

maybe a vortex going on in that area
second fan bracket in 10 days

good you are getting it figured out

On the way up north I blew my rear u joint in Kalispell a week prior...
