Question re: cv joints clicking

I just finished the HIH weekend and today while off road in Silverton, climbing in 4 low, I could hear a CV clicking. I only heard the clicking while climbing under load. However, I did notice a sound on the highway while taking curves to the right. I could feel the clicking slightly through the steering wheel. I looked underneath and both left and right CV boots are torn close to the compression clamp.

How concerned should I be? (considering that we are just beginning a 2 week vacation, leaving Silverton for Moab in the morning, then to Salt Lake City on Friday (for one night) then back to Moab then Ouray.)

Is this something that can wait, or do I need to address this week while in Moab or en route to SLC?

If repair is immediately necessary, are there any recommendations for shops in the area between Ouray, Moab, and SLC? What about the parts? Is there enough savings here to order from Beno or CDan, and are they able to overnight/expedite these parts to meet my timeline? What is the ballpark cost I am looking at for both parts and labor?

If it's not already toast, torn boot will lead to a failure if not fixed: how long can you go, hard to say.

See if you can find some silicone tape at lowes or Home Depot. If you have Wormgear clamps loosen and slide the clamp back, run a couple wraps of the silicone tape around the torn section and reclamp.

CVJ axles is in Denver- they sell remanufactured Oem Toyota axles for about $125 a side. Not sure if they do installs.

Slee is in golden co

Cruiser outfitters is near salt lake

Problem will be getting to the front of the line for help. I'll bet either is scheduling 3 weeks out for service.

If you've lost grease through the tears then you need to get some more grease in there sooner than later. Try to patch boots best you can, the self sealing silicone tape that @abuck99 suggested is probably your best bet (usually in the plumbing section, wild claims of fixing anything type tape).

A Toyota or Lexus dealership can usually fit you in same day, and they'll have reboot kits in stock. I know Larry H Miller Lexus in SLC is usually same day or next, and their Toyota service center is right next door. The clicking is unlikely to lead to a catastrophic failure... I would patch or reboot and enjoy the rest of your trip.

If it's to the point of clicking I'd assume your near failure. A field dressing like in post #72 BucFL LC100 Build with tape as @abuck99 suggested will buy you some time perhaps, but I'll bet you'll need one or both front drive shafts replaced soon.

Rebuilt front drive shafts (AKA CV's or front axles) $125 ea. with OEM core exchange, $200 without.
Hub flange $60 ea.
Snap rings inner and outer $5 a side.
Diff seal ~$25 (may need additional seal for out board tulip of DS $27)

If wheel bearings haven't been pack in 30K be a good time to do.

If you can make it to Denver I can help you out, or do for you if you don't wrench.

Yes, we got a room at the Hampton Inn on Main st. Arrived about 6:30pm local time.

That's nice of you to offer up your hundy. I'm not sure yet if I'll need transport, but if the repair turns out to be more in-depth than I anticipated, then I may take you up on the offer.
