This should be a cheap place to buy a unit as the locals wouldn't be interested in old tin cars. I lived in Doha for just under a year and know that the UAE also has plenty of these vehicles. But I have never been able to find one on dubizzle.

Haven't updated this thread for a while, but have found a few more. Just need to get their pictures.

But on a recent trip to Fujairah UAE, I did see this sorry FJ45. Spoke to the owner's kid; a confident 6 year old who referred me to his elder brother, the 10 year old. Starting price is AED 20,000 but easily dropped to AED 18,000. I would not pay more than AED 13 - 15,000. Owner's contact is +971-507996578

Thanks for posting the images. Sorry been away for a while. Purchased my BJ40, finally.

If politics revolved around Land Cruisers rather than religion and color the world would be a much better place.
Fire the politicians and replace them with MUD members from around the world

Dave, I think you could include the entire offroad community. As much as we rib the Jeep guys couldn't see it getting to the point of going to war.

I have not added to this thread for a while. To say its been a crazy few years, would be an understatement. We managed to survive a political boycott of Qatar only to get hit by Covid. We're surviving like everyone else...a day at a time; but finally called it quits in Oct 2021. Packed the bags ...and flow to Toronto.

With regards to my "baby"....needless to say....loaded her up in a big box and shipped to cold / freezing lovely Toronto!!! :bounce::bounce2::clap:. PS - The wife came too.

Suppose the final chapter of this epic saga has just begun .... The Beast is HOME!!!

Still with Qatar export plates; I need to sort out Ontario registration. Overall, shipping was ok, but think the shipper parked my truck out in the cold before handing it over to me. Battery was completely dead / drained; even though I disconnected it before, radiator fluid & power steering leaked; thinking some rubber hoses contracted / cracked in the freezing cold Toronto winter.

Downloaded the Ontario safety / inspection standard and looks like i need to do alot of work before I can legally get it on the road. Hopefully gas prices will come down before that.

Need a good reference for a FJ mechanical in GTA. any recommendations? Need to do some paperwork too and get my Ontario license too!!

Its an antique register it as one. Likely need nothing for inspections. Just need to get private insurance for value. I know thats how it works here in western canada

Since arriving in Toronto, final got a chance to work on the truck.

When it arrived here, in the dead of winter, the radiator coolant had leaked. I had the engine overhauled before shipping and the mechanic replaced all my coolant with water. Lucky for me, the radiator pipe connections were not secure; ie expansion forced the pipes out and allowed the freezing water to flow out.

So my mission was to replace both pipes; from the bottom and the second one to the water pump. Had to remove the power steering pump and the support bracket in order to install a replacement pipe. I managed to source a 2" ID pipe but it was a bit big. The O-rings were not able to secure / seal the pipe. Ideally, a 1.75" ID would have been better. Hence, when I poured in the anti-freeze coolant, it leaked!! Ran out of time so had to re-assemble everything back and leave it for the next time.

I did manage to change the following :
  • Both door handles
  • Both window regulators
  • Washer Tank & Radiator Reserve Tank
I also jacked up the front to protect my tires. Left it on A-frame supports.

  • Wow
Reactions: flx
Man you got lucky.
I can name 2 FJ40 owners that brought vehicles from South America and both of them either blew the freeze plugs out of the block or blew the radiator apart because they were just filled with water and they were exposed to freezing temps upon arrival. Do yourself a favor and replace all your hoses while you are there. Old rubber that has never been exposed to cold usually cracks and fails rather than contracts.
