Front end is all done and I am tearing into the engine repairs now.

Pulling the timing gear cover off to replace the two seals in it.

It was a bit stuck on, FIPG is no joke! I don't think it has ever been off before.

Once I got it off I was very happy to see everything in excellent condition. Gear mesh is perfect and the bearing in front of the IP is so good I am leaving it alone.

Crank pulley came off real easy once I had the right tools.

Cheers

I haven't mentioned it yet and I haven't done an exact calculation but so far I am sure this truck is getting over 25mpg.

I am installing new front leaf springs when I am done with the engine stuff. Would be wrapped up with the engine tomorrow but I ordered the o-ring for the vacuum pump which will be here on Monday.

Curious to see how it goes once back on the road next week and get some accurate mpg readings.

Cheers

Mine seems to have the same clutch booster as your PZJ70. Unfortunately mine no longer works and seems to be NLA nor does a rebuild kit seem to be available. At least that is what I was told anyways.

FWIW, I had an LJ71. It had a clutch booster. I had never heard of such a thing and was having a hell of a time with the clutch. I ended up bypassing the clutch booster all together. Never had any issues after that.

I ended up buying a used clutch booster from @joekatana . Mine is actually bypassed right now but I may try putting this one in...it is just not on the top of my punch list for my cruiser. As Joe put it, if I ever go with a heavy duty clutch, then it will be useful.

As mentioned in a previous post, the clutch in this thing is very light when the truck is running but when it is off is nice and stiff. I am told the LX with boosted clutch was more a luxury model and as such came with the clutch booster. IE grocery getter of the 70-series if there is such a thing.

I installed new front leaf springs today. Only one needed to be replaced but to avoid any "Cruiserlean" issues and keep it the same I did both. I also installed all new OEM bushings in the springs.

These are just a generic spring, I think the brand is Autoflex. Since I don't need to change the rears out and don't really want to get into the whole lifted can of worms I went with stock height.

This is why I needed to change out the leaves.

Here they are installed.

They are pretty stiff and shackle angle is not ideal. If they don't settle out I will pull a leaf from the pack. Original shocks are also pretty toast so will upgrade those and anti-inversion shackles are highly likely. Not until the truck is in the states though.

Super sick the last few days so didn't work in the shop. On the rebound now though and got the o-ring I been waiting on so time to install the vacuum pump and finish up the engine work.

If I don't start the truck today I will tomorrow and take it for a drive. :)

Also my website just went live today.

The alarm system in this truck has irritated me so I am ripping it out! I dislike alarms.

Fired the truck up the other day, it runs killer after not being started for three weeks. Only one issue, radiator leaks. I have searched high and low in this county for a new radiator finding only one OEM one in the whole country that is more than two times what a new one is from Japan. Absurd!! Going to make mine live until the truck hits the states and at that point just install an OEM one.

I have a handful of stuff I am still doing to this truck before I ship it out, I might tear into the rear axle for new wheel bearings but otherwise it is small stuff.

I am however tearing into an HJ47 I picked up on Friday. Knuckle rebuild is in progress on that truck right now along with f/w hubs being rebuilt.

Oh ya found a solid local upholstery shop that I am having make me all new interior panel cards on the PZJ70. The covers are good on my panels but the cards are trashed so having them remove the fabric and fit to the new cards they make. Also going to have them re-stuff the seat bottoms, the fabric on the seats is good but the foam is collapsed on the bottoms. Backs are fine. If I like their work I will probably have them do up the seats and door panels in the HJ47 as well.

Cheers

After nearly four weeks of trying to locate a radiator for this truck down here I have success! It is not OEM but it is not Chinese either. It fits like a glove and I am happy.

New battery tray was made and a new larger battery bought.

All the interior panel cards were made, original fabrics removed and installed in the new cards. Front and back seat bottoms restuffed as well.

Drove the truck around town a lot today. Runs simply awesome! Really fun truck to drive!

Got all the interior cleaned up and washed down from dash to inside every body panel. Happy!

Cheers

By the way there is a PZJ70 rolling around town on SoA and 35's, done up pretty well. I don't like the wheels but they do give it a wide stance and it is running KM2's. Nice and flat leaves too. Looks really killer.

The crank pulley on the PZJ has a weird slip clutch built into it. All seems fine with it but it makes a nasty clack clack noise till it heats up. So I got a new crank pulley assembly in route from UAE to the USA and I will install it in the states.

Changed all the fluids in the truck besides engine oil, put LSD gear oil in rear diff. Have OEM filter for engine in hand so engine oil is next. After that every fluid in the truck is new.

Tested the LSD on dry pavement the other day, both rear tires squealed. Happy about that!

Got rear axle seals and bearings in hand plus new rear wheel cylinders. That is next.

Cheers

Nice Job on the interior panels!! Who did those for you?

A Local business down here in Latin America. I am happy enough with their work I am having them re-upholster the seats and door panels in my HJ47.

Cheers

They look totally factory. Wish there was someone up here that could do work like that.
Can't believe they were able to peel all the vinyl off like that and re-glue it new board.
Unbelievable. Nice Job, again.

Better pics and a good solid deep cleaning on the interior is coming. Right now everything is cell phone pics and nothing has been professionally detailed or shampooed. ;)

Hello,

That brake looks good for its age.

Did you replace the cylinder? Mine started leaking after 20+ years.
