You have no room to talk. The last cruiser you painted was orange, white and purple.

You don't have much room to talk either you have never painted anything. Except your bathroom.:flipoff2:

What the hell are you talking about? That gives me all the room in the world to talk about this, that is exactly my point. I didn't spend hours on end dredging through some 1/2 legible, 3 times photocopied brochure to find a paint code. Just paint it colors that you like and enjoy it. Don't worry about if its seafoam or grey-green or rustic green cause they only people who are gonna know are guys with 8000 posts who live on Mud.

Not true. Check out this guys post count and some of his friends as well. https://forum.ih8mud.com/members/living-in-the-past.html

Many guys who are really into this stuff arent on the web much and when they are they make the posts count. Not just talking "chat" in a forum that counts those posts. :) If he wants to paint it period specific then let him, its his LC.

Anyways can we keep this build thread on just that....a build thread.

indeed it would be rare that color was only offered from 1961-62; the tough part is no one knows the paint code for it not even the 25 gurus........ so we will see

contact Mike Harness at ACC. He painted his 40 that same green and has the paint codes.

That green doesn't even look close to the brochure. I dont know if its the pics and scans but I don't think it is it looks way more light and blueish.

I think Mike's color was "international safety green," which is the US Forest Service's color, which is way too, well, ....

Hey JP...take your time, that green is a great color!

If it will help any, same issues with my '64. The whitish/tanish/bandaidish color inside is somewhat odd at best, and I think Wes finally figured out exactly which color it might be, but his color match doesn't show up in any '64 lit

So, seeing as this will be my daughter's cruiser, I let her pick, and at least she picked a period color...now is it T1208 or T808 Horizon Blue

Well, it is finally time to revive this thread it has been dead for far too long.... and I haven't had a daunting cruiser project to tackle for far too long as well!

A lot has changed for me since I started this thread, I finally got a real JOB but had to move to Augusta as a result. Bought a 1930's bungalow home which seemed like a good idea at the time until my wife decided that 1100sq. ft. and only one tiny bathroom we not going to cut. So I jumped right into a 400sq. ft. additon (700 if you count the enclosed porch) and that has turned into much more of a project that I had hoped for. None the less it if finally winding down as I just have some basic finish work to be done. Now that the house is liveable, I have a job (money), and a little more free time I believe it is time to jump bake into Project Old School (POS!)..........

The plans for POS have changed a little bit at this point. I now live atleast a good 3 hour drive from any decent offroading opportunites, thus the need for a more highway friendly 40 has arrived. This past spring in between jobs and houses I picked up a FJ62 to drive around for cheap transportation and hauling building supplies. I have long known this cruiser as it belonged to fellow member and friend SwampyCU. I honestly bought it with the sole intention of parting it out and using its drive train in the POS build. It is that point that I have now arrived; the body has been parted out and stripped down, all that remains now is the drivetrain and thus it is time to have some fun.

My general goals for the project are to:
1. Do a frame off repair and paint of the body, I am not shooting for a trailer queen paint job rather just something to stop the advancement of rust and I can still ahve fun with on the trailer not worried of pin stripping. I will also be cleaning and painting the frame.

2. Throw in the 3FE from the 62 and mate it up to my 4spd/3spd t-case; I am still up in the air on wether or not to throw down the money on an H41 ( I would love the control of the resulting crawl ration though)

3. Update the axles to disc. at this moment I am still deciding wether or not to go thru the trouble of using the 62 axles or going with the easier direct swap from a 40 disc setup.

4. Last goal is to throw in a rear locker, winch, and maybe an ARB front bumper but this will be highly dependent on funds after all the other issues have been addressed.

Okay that is a bit long winded for me and I am sure full of typos and misspellings, but hopefully that will bring POS back up to speed.

I post a few pics now and more to come as progress unfolds over the next few weeks..... months:grinpimp:

the first pic demonstrates the reason I am doing this....... and a note to anyone who worked with me on my previous attempt to put a 3FE into a 40 I didn't cut a single wire this time!!! Should make things easier down the road

the :princess: has been a good sport with this so far... she even lended me a hand at 11pm on a school night, in the rain :D Note it was late and this was the hardest engine pull I have ever done' largely due to me trying to remove the driveline with the PTO drive box still attached:bang:

Looking good JP! I am a little disapointed though......You have on shoes and socks in the pic. Are you getting old and soft on us??

After our baby gets here and if Brian is still around we should all get together one weekend in the spring to wrench.

a few pics of the great cruiserhead ingenuity that was displayed by Saucebox and his friends in removing the 62 body from the frame yesterday...... they built this set-up Sunday night and this was their first attempt at using it. All went impressively well until; the realization came that no one measured the width of the trailer before building the crane/hoist; note the fender removed from the drivers side. Other than that everything went great and I must say I was impressed:cheers:

Dang JP you've got the bug back I'd say.....damn how I miss wrenching with you......At least you can drive your vehicle in your shed, mine is better suited as a work shop. Sorry ME I wasn't there to be sure JP didn't get killed and that you had to stay up late to take care of him.

.....damn how I miss wrenching with you......QUOTE]

Awww shucks Chuck I miss wrenching with you too:hillbilly:

Well one day after reviving this dead thread I accomplished absolutely nothing last night:bang: Tonight I plan to start taking the 40 body off the frame...... but progress will be slow this week as I leave for a ski trip Thrusday:beer:

There we go fixed it.

Dang JP you've got the bug back I'd say.....damn how I miss wrenching with you......At least you can drive your vehicle in your shed, mine can't be driven anywhere. Sorry ME I wasn't there to almost kill JP by dropping a cruiser on him.

No wonder you don't call a guy back JP you are working on your cruiser again. Combine that with working on your house and general not calling people back and some of us may never hear from you again.
