LOL
So I had this vision the other day :hhmm: If I can finish the other body, get the lights and windshield wipers working, seats recovered, fine tune EVERYING :grinpimp: Oh and convince my wife I REALLY REALLY need to do this. I was thinking about another road trip in the LV next year to Oh I dont know Georgia :steer: Maybe hit one of your runs back there.

Yeah you suck. Will it also be in a glass case?

And it will sit up on his mantle....he'll never let it get in his cruiser......JP I think everyone is trying to tell you about your shoes to stop being such a wuss.:flipoff2::flipoff2:

Well, do to a ski trip last week and my wifes birthday the first of this week I haven't touched the 40 in almost a week:crybaby:. However last night I got back on track and feel I got a fair amount accomplished. I started out by removing the wiring harness, which is in horrible shape and hacked to bits (Marshall you just need to plan a weekend to come down and save me from this electrical night mare), removed the steering column and box, and finally removed all the body mounts. Now the body is free of the frame and ready to come off, but that will have to wait until the first of next week as I am going out of town again this weekend. I was excited as the first of a long train of parts I have orderd showed up today..... it is my POR-15 for the frame and underbody. I have to go to Harbor Frieght and pick up a cheap spayer but my goal is to have the frame completely stripped and POR15/painted by the end of next weekend.

Okay I didn't take to many pics last night but here are a few of the progress..... the last one is for Chuck (who called me a wuss :flipoff2:)

Post up how you end up thinning out the Por-15 using the sprayer and what you use Thanks

Rob, on the recomendation from some old threads here on mud I purchased the POR15 brand thinner and will be doing a 1/10 to 1/5 ratio. Supposedly the POR15 comes with instructions on how to thin it, but I have not had the chance to open the package yet and review it.

I will keep you posted with my results.....

Just cause you tilted the back end of the body up doesn't make you any less of a wuss. :flipoff2: What you should do when Chuck makes a comment is say "Chuck I have the same number of driveable 40's as you do :flipoff2:"

I didn't think you could thin POR?

I guess that is what you get for thinking :flipoff2: It seems quite a few here on Mud have sprayed it with good results. Also looking at the POR15 package I recieved last night it mentions how to thin it.

I picked up my $15 dollar paint gun from Harbor Frieght last night.... so I will find out soon enough.

How do you thin it? With what size gun tip?

Now Marshall how long have you know me??? Do you think I would go indepth enough with my research to know what size gun tip I am using?

I read on mud where others had done it, they recomended POR15 brand thinner with a 1/5 to 1/10 ratio...... and that was good enough for me and in my eyes all $15 dollar paint guns are created equal regardless of tip size :grinpimp:

you know me I am one of those "try it and see what happens type" no need for time consuming planning ;p

lol. I thought you were doing this right.

As right as I can........ I do my best work on the "fly" my personality is far from OCD. It is that architect/designer in me; I do creative/big picture stuff well and leave the details for the engineer minded people :grinpimp:

Sounds like the perfect definition for 7 years in undergrad. :flipoff2:

Spoken like a seasoned architect. Are you sure you haven't been liscensed for 20+ years? :)

This is the exact stuff I deal with daily. Arch. draws it, and then we have to tell them how it isn't going to work.

Your build looks fun, hope you can keep the momnetum and get her done soon. Good luck.

Heavy Lifting FJ40 Style.

Finally got to jump back into this project after spending the weekend at the in-laws.......

I will start off by saying I don't believe I have ever been so proud of my wife atleast not when it comes to Cruisers! Last night it was time to remove the body from the frame finally in preperation for this weekends POR-15ing of the frame......

I lack any real cruisers heads around me here, or neighbors that are interested in my old junkie LandCruisers. Thus the removal of the body fell to the use of an engine hoist and an elaborate arrangement of straps in the absence of brute strength. My system of straps failed with the body half way off........ In steps my wife with the encouraging words of " why don't we just lift it ourselves" I just laughed remembering the 6 cruiserheads it took to remove the body the last time I did this. But I figured what the heck nothing to loose and I really didn't want the body sitting out in the up coming rain/snow storm.

In the end it wasn't pretty but the two of us mangaged to lift the whole body off the frame and place it on my gehetto make shift body stand in the shed without losing any digits or limbs :D..... I think my wife was more excited than I was with our accomplishment, and yes my back is very sore today:doh:.

Enjoy the pics and I will have more updates this week
