I just went ahead and bought this amazing roof rack, I opted for unfinished version and would like to paint it. What brand and what paint shall I use ?

I had to sand the rack, it's has sharp edges due to it being water jet. Then I used a plasti dip on my PRINSU. I love it. Also, the shield is supposed to touch the roof--it will scratch it, I went to lowes and purchased a door liner that is used to protect from opening and dinging other cars or the door itself.

Has anyone mounted accessories ie Shovel/axe to the side of their rack and if so what did you use?

My racks schedule to arrive tomorrow - have the dining room cleared out - Cant wait to get it up built/installed

I have a shovel and an axe mounted with Quick Fists along the drivers side. The shovel is a short one with the spade hanging over the front spoiler.

Dissent, I noticed you don't have anything on order, I'm sure you're going through withdrawal symptoms.

LOL, buiding my part time kit list, and 100 series fan mods. Soon....

Rack received - Great design, easy assembly - hopefully will mount tonight - Thank to BoxRocket and Dissent for their write ups and feedback

Has anyone added rubber bushing b/t the rack and the rain gutter to eliminate metal on metal or is it not necessary?

I added a rubber strip in the rain gutter, but ended up removing it because it didn't seem necessary. I still believe it can't hurt to have a "bushing" there.

Especially when you hit a large tree branch, which drags your gutter mounted rack backwards and leaves it hanging off your truck by one now mangled foot; leaving deep gouges all along the inside of the gutters........

Anybody make an aluminum or fiberglass full length flat deck to go on a rack like this?

I just want a rooftop platform. No rooftop tent.

I had considered protection on the foot but it's solid and the contour of the gutter down the length of the truck keeps it sort of locked in plae. It can't slide.

I built built a folding plywood base that lives on my Prinsu. When I camp, I fold it down the length of the rack, attach some small brackets with thumb screws and plop my REI Half Dome 2 tent on top. It's very secure and ultra light weight. Only 30 lbs for the plywood. Sleeps very well. I use a Tepui telescoping ladder I bought from Boxrocket that attaches to brackets I I installed on the Prinsu. Love this setup. very portable and no clearance, weight or loading/unloading issues. Total price was about $150 for the ladder, wood, hardware and paint. I already had the tent but it's about $275. Still much cheaper and very versatile. I'll have have a writeup on it soon.

Just ran about 2,000 miles over the course of 3 weeks with a crappy/rusting steel tubed rack and decided I needed to find an aluminum solution. Went to the Front Runner site first, but remembered I saw @Qball with a Prinsu that looked good and read this entire thread. Anyone have any complaints after a bit of use?

Prinsu did a group buy up for Tacoma's would be nice if he did one for 80's I would buy one

Why not try and start one? Msg Prinsu and see how many people it would take to get a discount.

I have a buddy who wants one as well.

I still love mine. I've built a foldout sleeping platform for my REI RTT setup and just mounted a 21x45 Renogy solar panel on it. Really a big fan of the versatility and low profile qualities of this rack.
