I have just over 3500 miles on mine, fully loaded with a roof top tent and two awnings. Nothing has loosened. I don't carry a boat but why not just remove the rear crossbar, slide a piece of black pvc pipe over it and reinstall? Or, you could use the t-slot to mount a boat trailer roller with a couple of "L" brackets.

That's even a better idea than the fancy slotted thingofmajig! It can be made to be super tight and the round shape really helps loading by reducing contact area/friction!

Silly question, has anyone tried assembling the rack on a cruiser?

of course do some pre assembly 1st to make it easier.

it seems if one has a lift then it would make it a little more difficult...if stock height then totally doable.

I suppose it could be done if you wanted to make your life harder. :meh: It's not very heavy once it's fully assembled though. My wife and I easily set the assembled rack into place.

Here's my rack installed w/an arb awning.

Can you post pictures? I have the rack and also have an ARB awning and been wanting to mount it

Random observation today...

I noticed that on mine and most everyone else's, the upper left and right corners of the wind deflector are "notched" out. In other words it doesn't go straight across. Although with Box Rocket's it goes straight across without the cut out. Anyone know why there is a difference? Just curious.

in regards to the wind deflector, my rack was the prototype so there are a few differences, like the deflector, and the shorter height of the rack. The reason for the notched corners on the production models is because the deflector needs to be mounted high enough to not hit the roof and with square corners the corners would stick up above the rack and look weird. If you look closely at my rack you will see that the corners of the deflector are about 1/16" above the rails. I've been thinking about notching mine too.

as for the side rails catching branches, I don't live in a heavily wooded area like the PNW or NE but I've had the truck in some thick brush/woods and never snagged anything in there. Just my opinion but that would be a dumb reason NOT to get the rack. It's just as easy for other racks to get braches to slide under a rack and get snagged on the rack feet. The Prinsu rack probably is less prone to that than other racks because it's such a small opening it's harder for branches to fit in there.

Seems like plenty of space to mount a limb riser wire above the notch if you are worried about catching brush. That or sharpen the notch like a gut hook - sort of like the wire strike protection system installed on helicopters.

The rack is the best rack for an 80 imho. Light, strong, attractive, etc. It's obvious the notch is there so as to add anti zombie weaponry in the near future, any more questions? I for one will be connecting a high powered water jet in there.

I saw install a razor blade in that notch and just use it as a rope/sash/belt/tree branch cutter. It already looks like have of a seat belt cutter. I'm 3/4 serious BTW. It could come in useful.

I was 7/8th serious in post #196.
