I have painted my jump seat frames with Rustoleum rattle can and want to sand the first coat.
What grit wet/dry sandpaper should I use and is water the preferred liquid?
It looks like I will need a few coats of paint to smooth it out since the sandblaster hit it really hard.
Thanks
Ken

use 600 grit with water.

Thanks 5280HAWK:)

Just did not want to screw up all the work I put into it so far.

Ive been doing alot of sanding of Rustoleum, and if you spray the water on, it will bead up really well. you can tell when you sanded enough bacause the water will stop beading, go really lightly around to ridges or edges, because the sand paper will put more pressure there, and you will sand the paint right off, so be careful.

If you decide to sand again aftr the second coat you might want to go with a finer grit like 800, or 1000.

good luck.

yes on multiple coats start going even finer like 5280Hawk says. I find 1000 grit to rough it up enough for multiple coats. Then when your at the end, hit it with 1000, then 1500....possibly 2000 then onto the polishes. It will glow like a mirror.

I'm about sick of wet sanding Tremclad. All it takes it a swipe or two and your making a ridge thin.....AHHHGG.

Got everything back together and I think they turned out great.
Only sanded one time and left the last coat alone.
Thanks for the tips.

Nice job fallon, Those came out really good.

What color rustoleum did you use? Thats a damn close match to OEM...

Rustoleum, Hammered silver-metal in the 16 oz size.
The hammered effect is very close to the stock look. The color is just a shade lighter.

Looks Nice!
