Nice write up. Thank you for the detailed info, pics and wiring diagram.

I may need to do this sooner rather than later as my 05 just started cycling through the Toyota and Lexus screens. It was perfectly fine a few days ago and then it goes black and displays Toyota, then black again and displays Lexus. Over and over again.

M wife uses it for work so it's gone almost every day. Do any of you know of a method for resetting it? That'd be easier plus I could do it once she gets her new ride.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm aware that it's the nav system

Where did you get those inline wire connectors?

Pulled the trigger on a LC manual control unit yesterday, and randomly installed a new battery. This morning, truck started right up, got on the HWY to work and...Temp up / dwn not working... Was able to get them going after turning the screen on and going to the climate menu, but i feel like the universe is telling me something.

I'm going to do this conversion shortly, just waiting for the last of the parts to show up I've ordered. Will be installing the new Atoto A6 Android at the same time, bypassing the factory amp and installing the antenna splitter with adapter to run both antenna's.
Excited to ditch the factory NAV and jump ahead 17 years in technology!
Thanks again to @primeral & @TXSunDevil and any others I may have forgotten that clarified what's required and did the wiring homework to make it appear fairly easy to perform.

Nice. Be sure to add any photos or notes for items that weren't covered in the posts. Hopefully if enough of us contribute we can make this a common upgrade for folks with the 01-02 Nav systems. It was a breath of fresh air to upgrade to a modern double DIN.

Thanks. I ended up with two complete sets of plugs for the manual dial setup. One set was removed from a 98 and the other set with the manual temp controls was removed as a matched set from a 1999. Here are some differences.

Anyone in SoCal that has done this and can help?
I’ve read these 4 pages and still don’t understand it. I hate electrical stuff.
I have an 01 LX. Would the 01 LC dash work or do I have to find an 01 LX to get the the parts I need?
I think my ML amp is going bad. Is this meant to keep the ML amp or does this not work with vehicles with the ML system?

According to the folks in this thread
Pre 03 Factory NAV to Double Din, Climate Knobs Conversion?
The LC 3 knob and LX controller are interchangeable plug and play. If you go to the first post in the current thread by @primeral his vehicle was a Mark Levinson. Crutch field makes an amp bypass adapter that can be used or you can hardwire it in yourself. Please do plenty of research to verify.

You’ve done the upgrade right?
Has anyone done a video of the steps?

I have done it. Nobody has done a video. Just the instructions that you see throughout this post.

You can also just leave the amp in place and just tap into the speaker in lines from the amp. No need for an amp bypass. When I did my swap, I did this because the previous owner messed up the wiring in the dash and things weren't working right at first. I had to fixing the wiring and some things still didn't work right.

While there is a ton of information here thanks to the pioneers of this swap, you are going to have to be willing to face a bit of the unknown.

Thanks to redjet for his original spreadsheet which mine is based from. I mapped all pertinent pins for anyone to easily follow. My vehicle is a 2001 LX470 with Mark Levinson audio (North American LHD model specifically).

The relevant connectors are at the back of the AC Amplifier and the orange plug at the AC/Nav fascia. You will label the matching plugs on your harness I, H, F, G, and E. (I didn't order them that way, that's how the Toyota wiring diagram identifies them.) Also note the 20-pin connector at the audio control unit, it's a perfect match for the Metra 70-8113 harness.

Have you been able to find the pictures that no longer show here?

Just to add and hopefully encourage. It's definitely worth popping your bezel off and pulling out the radio then taking a look at the connectors with this thread pulled up on your phone or a tablet. Also print out the PDF of the pinouts that I posted. It will all make ALOT more sense when you are looking at it and not just trying to imagine it.

I’m going to try this, I found a guy 2 hours away with LX climate control.
I told him I need
1. The climate control
2. The harness’ in back of Cliamte control and about 12” of wires

He’s asking if I need the connectors and wires that connect in back of stock radio.
I don’t know crap about electronics so I’m in over my head, but I’ve fixed a lot of electrical issues on other cars I’ve had by using online searches.
So sorry for all the questions.
The thing that confuses me is that the diagram shows for example Plug A and a wire color, does that mean I have to look for that wire color on the stock harness and strip that wire and attach it the connector harness even if color wires don’t match?
Or do they match color?
Thanks.
I will probably do he climate control and then go to a audio shop to have them add the amp and radio.

You will only need the wire and 4 connectors that go into the back of the 3 knob controller. When you install your head unit you can use a Metra harness. If you can do the climate control the audio is the easy part. Like mentioned above by @OTSWolf you do not need to bypass the amp. You can use the Metra Harness 70-8113 if your Head Unit will accommodate it but you had mentioned your amp going out also. There are plenty of resources on this board to help.

Would the climate control from a 1998 lx work with a 2001 lx? I found a 98 climate control and want to put that in my 01 but don’t know if I need to find a 01. Thanks

Sorry for all the questions. So the guy With lx sold the whole car.
But I found LC controls with the dials, I prefer that, it doesn’t come with the connectors and wires. Would I be able to use the connectors from another lx with digital controls on the LC climate control?
Or do I need both off the same?
Do years matter? I have an 01. Can I use controls from a 98-02? Thanks again
