Prado door on Gx rear door ?

My only input would be if you go with the JW mount, stay with a stock wheel/tire size and don't do washboard roads.
Do you have a link for failed JWs or AAC carriers?

I've seen a few comments like that but can't for the life of me find proof/experience of such failures. I'd like to relocate my spare to my door.

I remember seeing a photo of the carrier tearing the sheet metal off the rear door. But it was some time ago and since I mount mine on my Metaltech bumper, I didn't really take much note of when and where the photo we from.
Sorry... Try some searches in this forum, it should come up.
But being an engineer, I just know by looking at something generally how much stress it will take before failure. Of course it's only a seat of the pants feeling and in reality needs an FEA done on it, but sheet metal just isn't that strong, even with backing plates.

Hello guys ,
Im new in here , and im from kuwait , i did change my gx460 door to prado.
And it was easy conversation ,after i painted the door , it took less than 6 hours to swap the door.

I bought the door complete from junkyard with glass tire carrier spare tire cover , R camera. It cost me around $1000.

I own bodyshop , so i only paid for painting material.

Its direct fit no modification needed , even the wires for lock , camera and brake light plugged directly.
I used the lexus emblems from the original door.

The only difference is:
The Prado letter in the door handle ( i cut it with grinder and weld plastic sheet with my plastic welding machine thin i stick lexus letters emblem)

The Prado rear door glass is not openable.

I used hard in desert i don't have any issue my tire size is 33'. And i feel its the maximum tire size you can hang there without any issue.

Here is some photo

If you wanted to make a little extra coin, you could package a door painted to the customers factory color and ship it.
Figure out you're junk yard purchase price, painting and crating costs and some extra for you!
Having a turn key rear door for less than $2000.00 U.S. may be a good deal for many of us over here.

I think the best way to keep the shipping cost low is to ship container with prado parts.
Painting the door here is cheaper the states but its hard match the color with only color code.
I think each complete door without painting , with shipping, will cost around $2500.

Ok, how do you feel the qua
I’ve been up to some stuff. Bought the Chinese door. Still finishing it up.

What do you think of the quality of the door materials? The Toyota/Lexus steel is way thinner than what I‘m accustomed to with German or British vehicles so if it were to get thinner I’d be concerned.

Door quality seems high. Its got the toyota pearl paint and it is so close to the GX pearl that I am not going to bother painting it - most of it is covered anyway.

The accessories have less quality.

The wheel mount and the wiper motor mount are particularly low quality. I am going to replace those. The window is fair quality - obviously not OEM. The outside plastic for the license plate and door handle is fair quality - but doesn't fit just right. Will probably also replace that with OEM. Lastly, the interior panels I haven't tested but I was warned that those don't fit right either.

All in all for less than 1k shipped its a pretty good deal. The bare door painted in pearl is probably worth that. The other parts can be swapped out with OEM parts fairly easy if anything bothers you.

Does take some time to lengthen some of the wire harnesses to reach the new mounting points. Will post a finished product soon.

Getting ready to embark on this myself with a couple friends. I’ve been moving boxes for the majority of today and figuring out what’s in each box has been better than Christmas. So stoked to dive into this project!

Pretty much done now. Still trying to figure where to put the rear camera. The door doesn’t have the opening behind the spare tire for the wire to go to the middle of the spare like it does from the factory.

I think it looks good. Very functional with my LRA tank taking up the space underneath.
You have an LRA!!! AND you live in San Diego!!! I'm SOOOO jealous!
I've been wanting one for years but I didn't think CA allows them with smog testing. As of a couple years ago, my rig just became old enough to have to start smog testing.
Have you had it smoged yet with the tank?

I've asked the same question and the answer was always "what tank?"

@clearmysix how is this holding up? Any more thoughts/insights?

Working out great.

Did a 1000 miles in Baja and beat it up without much of an issue.

1. I had to add KAON shims to the lower hinge in order to better align the door with the weight of the spare tire.
Door Hinge Shims to suit Prado 120, 150 & FJ Cruiser - https://www.kaon.com.au/door-hinge-shims-spacer-to-suit-prado-120-150-fj-c

2. Used weatherstripping to seal the door better (see stripping on the top of the door here

3. Bought these circular hole plugs so I could remove the duct tape seen in the picture above

4. Added a child lock cover here on the door to cover another hole not seen in the USA door

5. Relocated the camera to the license plate bracket - works great here with some double sided tape
