There seems to be a lot of variability about what fluid to use in the PS system. Some have luck with PS fluid, others with synthetic ATF, and others still with Toyota Dex III fluid.

What do you use and what have you had luck with?

Mobil 1 ATF, and I use it on both the LX and LC.

Do NOT use power steering fluid, you'll regret it.

ATF and Dextron I, II, III etc. are same thing.

I like 1 qt. Mobil One MV ATF, flush every 10K miles. Runs cooler and keeps pump happy (quiet)

I use Import Multiple Vehicle ATF. Lately it has been Castrol.

Maxlife ATF

Sounds like quality ATF is not an issuee which is what I've read. I'm getting M1 Synthetic ATF and flushing it this weekend.

M1 Synthetic ATF last year; stopped my pump whine as well.

Dealer put power steering fluid in mine when they did the rack...I made them change it and the service manager gave me his personal prius with 250k on the clock, drove like new. He said the only difference is detergents...

I've got to ask:
Toyota Dealer?
How did you find out?

Yep. Toyota. I checked it. Wasn't the right color. I called them on it and they fixed it the next day. I asked why they didn't put it what it says on the res. cap and didn't really get an answer...

I'm surprised they even had power steering fluid in the shop.:worms:
Ha, it had probably been sitting on a back shelf for 15 years, and was one of the penny pinchers ideas for nickel and diming customers until they used it all up.
