I am remodeling my kitchen and the old school white stove top and hood isn't going to work for the wife. So instead of replacing the entire unit, I thought about powder coating. The stove is one of the old drop in ones that is just a flat piece of metal about 3 by 4 with 4 burners. Would black powder coat hold up to the heat of a stove top? The metal part doesn't get that hot as the element is protect from the actual stop top. I figure that must be what they used to paint the thing white in the first place.

So will it work?

I have no idea, i'd try it, cause I am cheap, and if you're going to replace it anyway, you may as well screw it up before you throw it out :D

the white coating is enamel though, not powdercoat.

when I worked in auto body, I painted a fridge for my boss once, looked great, obviously not the same thing as the stove, but the enamel coating doesn't seem to impede adhesion of paint
