Any idea what switches Toyota ever put in those slots, maybe in other markets? I've never seen pics of dashes with OEM switches in that location.

Subtank (Oz), rear fog lights (Euro)..... Can't think of anything else.

Ian ~ having just had the bezel off of my 80 lastnight,
i have a sneeky suspiscion that the auberin gauges
should fit the factory openings in an 80. You might have to
remove some of the "wood" trim, so choose your
spot accordingly. double check the specs and
measure.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Thanks, I think I'm going with a single DIN mounting setup though. Thanks for the mounting tips!

I'm pretty happy with my Prosport Premium Series gauges:

How are those mounted? Screwed into the pillar?

Screwed directly in. It worked out well I think, they are right there in front of your face, great visibility but not in the way. ATEB in Burnaby BC installed the gauges as they were required for their power rod tune. I can ask if anything else was used other than self-tapping screws if anyone would like more info.

This is an Arduino based touch screen device I made to do gauge duty in my 80, did the same thing for the 100 I used to have. Does various temps and pressures, voltage/split charge, speedo correction, trip meter. Still got to fit the EGT probe and oil pressure sensors but the boost, coolant temp and coolant loss sensors are working.

I need details on that! Please?

Not without some trimming. I thought the same thing before I measured it up. I ended up using the otherwise useless business card holder/cupholder slot above the radio. I trimmed it for the Auber opening and the gauges just pop in. My 80 is a '97 though- I don't think the early 80 series has this slot.

That'd be great. I have a molded pillar pod in the same spot right now, but it sucks and I want to replace it.

x4!

Does the truck need to have OBDII to use one of these? Your an 80 owner again?

Two separate two guage pods from Autometer.

From top to bottom: Trans temp, water temp, pyro, boost. Great gauge visibility, only issue is the sunvisor will not go all the way foward to the windshield. But it still gets the job done.

Forgive the sunshades...they came with the vehicle, hence free and I refuse to spend the $ on getting new ones:)

jesus that is a complicated little thing.
I would love to be able to get something like a bully dog tuner like gauge to monitor a whole bunch of parameters.
The madman guage doesn't do enough for what I would want to monitor.

Doesn't use OBD, that's not an option on the 1997 80 I'm in now :) There's a longish thread about it here http://www.landcruiserclub.net/forums/showthread.php/41651-arduino-amp-touchslide starting with the one I built for the UZJ 100 I used to have. Happy to answer questions about it.

Very cool indeed! I was contemplating getting into arduino as a means of controlling the watering system in my garden...you know, sense when it rains, how dry the soil is start watering until set amount of inches of water etc. But gave up as I just couldn't get motivated enough to just let the bugger water it whether its wet or not.

With the Cruiser though, its a different set of motivation! I can just imagine being able compute and TREND things such as fuel consumption, engine temps and (for those with turbo) boost pressures, etc. Trends are what gives one an accurate look at what's happening / about to happen to your engine.

And with your arduino setup, it appears that you can just log it all into your computer to map it all out and keep records of it!

Geez....where am I going to find the time to do all that! Great implementation though. I wish I had the time to to do this. :D

EGT and Boost-

So, tell me DEADSALT.

How did you appreciate your Auber gauges?

i was very interested to buy an Auber gauge and I put ‘’Auber’’ on YouTube. I found the gauge very bright in the dark! Almost... too much bright. What is your opinion on my thought ?
