I've often thought that an LT1 may not be a big enough power increase over my worn out 2f, and that maybe I need a 502. I would post a pic of my engine bay, but you can't see anything between the grease and mud, and the only mod I have going right now is the seized alternator that generates a nice smoke screen if you try to start it.

Nobody "NEEDS" a 502.... but it would fun.

LT1 would be plenty of power. IMOP.

x2, i hear a lot of people talk about needed tons of power, but most of them would crap their pants in a car running a 350 hp small block, which is easier to make these days than falling off a log. A 502 with good compression and heads will easily make better than 500 hp with a comparable if not greater amount of torque, which is enough to break some really stout hardware.

That being said, i want a 440 on propane when my current motor dies, but i dont expect cruiser axles to handle it (without some serious $$$$$).

I agree about the 502, I always forget you can't hear sarcasm in type....sorry, but it would be sweet.

The LT1 was cammed and had some head work. It made 400ftlbs and ran just OK. The power band was too high. Typical small block needing RPM to make torque. I was going diesel until we ran across the 502. It makes 630 ftlbs and will break parts on command. I am going to pull it and probably go with a 6 liter this spring.

it's slow, but it doesn't use much gas at all.

Cummins 4BT in what was originally a 1991 tropical-spec FJ62:

engine compartment 2 (Small).webp

Exiled- That is a great looking swap. Does the 4bt have rocker boxes that are seperate from the head or just valve covers? Im familiar with some heavy equipment diesels but i dont know much about their smaller siblings.
