Hey knowledgeable 100 owners!
I have a 2001 LX 470 with 140k on it. Only 2 owners including me and Texas car entire life. Did ACH delete to SLEE 5 years ago and have in last 2 years done belts, water pump, radiator and associated parts.
Car has been leaking oil and and took to my trusted 100 specialist. He reported I have leaks in rear main engine and valve cover and pd hose along with air conditioning area and is saying if I just do valve cover the pressure changes will assuredly open up other smaller leaks and rear could become quick big problem regardless.
He is quoting around 8k to replace everything that is leaking along with seals and hoses that are still original 2001 rubber parts.

Do I fix nothing and drive it into ground or do easier repairs myself and do tough ones with him. I’m moderately mechanical but limited time as I work 12 hour day shifts in cardio thoracic surgery and take call?

How much is it leaking? We talking couple drops? Regardless, that price is way high. Very common for it to be just the valve covers on the 2uz and it leaking down for it to look like it's leaking from other areas. Many are able to just tighten the valve cover bolts and get by for awhile.

That sounds like hes ripping you off. Take it to the dealer for a quote or find another mechanic.
I thought so as well so priced it individually at different Toyota Lexus shops and dealerships and just rear was close to 2k most places, valve 5-800 depending if I had them to plugs while in or me do later, hoses, cams, oil pan etc I hit 6-8k everywhere I called from at shops I did not trust.

He found at least 7 diff spots leaking and took pics and invited me to come go through it ( he almost exclusively does 100s). He suggested I don’t fix unless I’m keeping it for long time and just tighten and reseal but also said with every piece of rubber in all engine being all 2001 original basically everything needs replaced after 25 years.

It leaks enough as is now that I went on vacation and it sat for 5 days and a puddle was under car when I returned. It never sits long usually so I never see oil on driveway as my son moves it around often to get other cars out or rearranged

I’m not far from Fort Worth. Message me if you’d like to bring it over and I can give it the once over with you and put it on my lift and get you a list of “eventuallies.” It likely only needs valve cover gaskets, which is an afternoon job needing no special tools.

A puddle is most likely not engine oil. Again, contact me and I’ll help you diagnose.

I’m in Fort Worth and that would be incredible actually. I’ve taken my Lexus to Pratt and Lxtoy shops along with dealerships and usually prefer Lxtoy as he never suggests repair that is not essential and steers me away from silly fixes if I’m not stressing said issue Like how my sunroof never worked when I got it. I never even looked into it

no pressure difference with new valve cover gaskets, PCV takes care of internal pressures

X2 if it leaves more of a puddle when parked versus oil all over when driving

8k? he should be rebuilding the engine for that much

What a legend
