So I recently finally acquired a Scout steering box for my 55. What pitman arm should I use with a SOA? Do I need a long arm? big drop?

Should I use hysteer? double steer?

thanks to all

do a search this has been covered. the pitman arm should be the length of your steering arms. i'd go hysteer from 4x4 labs ... i use a stock saginaw arm with like a 2 1/2 drop. I have the conversion rod from BTB products that has a standard thread for the pitman arm on the sag. and a metric for the cruiser tie rod end.

Oh you guys...Whatever happened to :flipoff2: you newb?
(Heep Wagoneer pitman worked for me)

There is a seach function for a reason.

Aqualu sp? has one too its cheaper then a highsteer. Thats about all I know about it though.

like woody said, let make newbies feel welcome...
help a brother out, find the link for him instead of ripping on him.

i'm doing the scout box myself on my sua 40.
i'm gonna go with the scout pitman arm and see how it goes, it's about 9" long with a slight drop.

good luck!

I am doing the scout conversion, SUA on a 40 also. Not to hijack this thread but what are you using for your drag link? Are you cutting and welding the land cruiser to the scout or having something custom made?

Thanks,

Gary

I used the early 80's Jeep Wagoneer pitman, but...........the later 80's, early 90's Jeep Cherokee's have a pitman that's shorter and has a slight drop to it. I'f I'd known about the Cherokee pitman, I might have went with it instead. You might want to check it out.

BTW, pulling junkyard pitman arms is a mother f**king pain in the a$$!! I've done two of them, and wish to do no more. I broke a rented puller on the later Cherokee pitman. Some tools I reccomend other than everything to secure the vehicle and remove the drag link, is a small propane torch to heat the pitman around the output steering shaft (cause you don't really want to get over zealous with the heat from say, oxy-aceteline, and plus it's easier to haul to the site) and a huge solid steel bar to beat the dog-s**t out of it from the top while putting pressure on it from the puller. You kinda have to work it in cycles. Crank on the puller, heat the pitman, beat on it with the bar, put some more pressure on it, heat it some more, beat on it some more, crank it down some more, ect., ect.
Good luck...

Only because i've posted the wagoneer pitman arm at least 4 - 5 times in scout p/s threads. The newb should at least be able to find that through the SEARCH function :flipoff2:

What? You get tired of bragging about your junk? Not me...
And this one's off a GRAND Wagoneer, not just a regular wagoneer.

Thanks for the tips. I think that I will either go with the aqualu or the 4x4 labs and grab a heep pitman.

Thanks to mostly everyone for being nice on the playground........:D :D
