I've had some inquires about my new pink bumper from TG and the paint process I used. When I started this little project I was hoping to find this sort of info on the forum and wasn't able to find what I was looking for, especially for painting such a bright and unusual color without having to purchase a spray gun. Before I started, since the bumper comes with no coating, I wiped it down with acetone.

I used the Rust-Oleum Professional Aluminum Primer below. I bought and used 3 cans of this to have two full coats of primer. I had to use the Aluminum version since this was the only white primer they carried at Lowes.

Between each coat of primer and top coat I used this fine grit sand paper and allowed at least 2 hours between each primer coat and 4-6 for turning the bumper over.

And the top coat of automotive paint which I had custom mixed at Napa Auto Paint store location below. They have about 1000 automotive colors that can be blended into any custom color and they will put it into a spray can at about $25 a can. No spray gun needed! I needed exactly two cans to completely cover the bumper with two coats of PINK. Between each coat I waited about 4-6 hours and 12 hours before turning it over.

I didnt have any issues with using the aluminum primer while applying it. I'm curious to see how it holds up until its time for a touch up though. There's got to be a pink factory color code for the 4 runner! Speaking of Chrysler, I have an 80 Newport that is stock mint green with matching crushed velour seats. Wish it was pink!

looks great! Hello Kitty and a pink bumper. :grinpimp:

Good job! I like that you can touch up the paint versus powder coating.

Where are my shades?

I've used matched paint from NAPA before. Just take in your color code and they will make up a rattle can.

I think you and Stickers need to meet.

Very nice job, I saw it Sunday and it is a first class paint job.

Unlike my paint jobs that typically include a baked on finish. I usually weld it up and paint it while it is still to hot to touch:D:D Cuts the drying time waaayyy down.

And bubbles the paint. How do I know that?

She makes me so proud, <sniff>!!!

I was telling her that when we goes wheeling, the person behind her will know EXACTLY which way she went based on the pink scrapings on the rocks, LOL!!!

Who's Stickers?

Cruiserdan's wife. She has similar, unorthodox methods (colors/decorations) as you. Not saying it's bad, jut different from most of the boring stuff everyone else does.

I know there are more current pics of her psycho-delic 80 out there, but I can't find them. I thought she posted up some of her painting silliness.
