Pilot bearing

It should have no clearance (no play) but it should slide on without difficulty.

bearings are super hard forcing it onto the shaft can crack the inner race try sanding or grinding the inner race to fit .make sure there are no burrs on the shaft also.i dont think i would mess with the shaft even thought its easer

Just asking this question again. I have a new pilot bearing and I cannot fit this over the tranny input shaft (1hz shaft on H55). Too tight. Just wondering how tight is should be. Seems like it should just slide on if I would ever stand a chance of getting it to mate to the motor. I dont want to put it in the motor until I know I can get the tranny mounted.

Good on you for checking this out ahead of time. So many people don’t know there’s a problem until they’re one inch from finishing the install. Then they just force it.

I have no issue with honing the tip of the trans...as long as you’ve verified that the ID on the bearing is actually spec. There is some difference in tolerances between mfgrs, even though there isn’t supposed to be.

I just had an SKF bearing that had a slightly oversized ID.

If it is off a thousandth then use some fine grit sand paper on both surfaces, mostly on the inner race of the bearing. If it is off several thou, check the part numbers again. It needs to be snug if it is going to engage the bearing - not "hammer it on tight" however.

Shaft 15.02mm. Bearing 14.97mm. Based on the above discussion, I tried a light dremel on the inner bearing and... now it spins on the shaft. Probably not good to have spin for thousands of miles. Time to order another bearing. Always pays to ask first... a new bearing is a lot easier than a putting a new shaft in that h55!
