I'm looking more in depth to the SOA for my pig...I am currently running 4"+ Alcans on the beast, with longer shackles put me around 5" of lift, more unloaded in the back. My shackle angles aren't great and I would like more flex.

I already have long enough brake lines, and my rear shocks are definitely long enough for SOA.

Steering? I have manual steering..., Aqualu double steering arm
Cut & Turn? Will I need this? anyone not doing it?
Shackle Rev? I'm thinking against this one

I would like to make it a very low SOA...I'm assuming Dodge spring perches...safe to custom make them lower? Stock springs the best? Or should I ship my Alcans back to them to be "de-arched"

i've run two 40's without cut and turn with no issues...you have to cut and turn if you point the pinion up at all though. i don't have cv's in the front so i couldn't do it.

FJ55 front driveshaft is significantly shorter than the FJ40 unit. If you want it right... Cut and turn.

You can not shave the dodge perches enough to matter IMHO. You might get about 3/4 of an inch... You will have to turn your spring pin around or cut it flush with the nut.

I'd pass on the shackle reversal. The short front driveshaft acentuates the inherent complications of an SR.

Stock springs will ride and flex great. But you will find that they sag out pretty darn quick once you start using the new articulation. Adding an extra main leaf will help.

This seems funny to me since the FJ55 is longer overall than the FJ40. I wonder why Toyota did that?

because the front axle is more forward in the 40 versus the 55, if you look through the engine bay your 40's axle is in front of the engin where in the 55 it is right under the #1 cylinder.

i dont know, because i was always planning a doubler (longer shaft=less angle) i didnt do the cut-turn when i SOA'd. i ran this way for a couple years before the doubler and i never had any problems with it, no binding ect.

ditto on the S/R, my shaft came apart a couple times, but i have since made a square tube front shaft, no more probs, no more high speed 4x4 either.

I wish I had a 40. Wait, no I don't :D I only like wagons(40's don't have room for camping gear, two boys, and two dogs. I'll have to look at my buddies 40.

I ran saginaw PS from an astro van (3-1 box) not bad, used the marlin hysteer arms, works well. FJ-060 TRE's and Fryrods (thick ass tube!)

Cut and turned almost 20 degrees with stock springs over axle, added one in the front, two leaves in the rear to accomodate future sag.

No shackle reversal, same issues as listed in above posts...

here are some pictures, HTH....

Steering? I had manual steering. Thought it was the right time to add the Scout P/S during the SOA. Cut & turn? Yup. SR? Nope.
I used the dodge spring perches. Stock springs in front, added a leaf in back.
With the doubler, my driveshafts are almost the same length front & rear.

Looks great pig head...

as my mind continually changes, I have decided to go 4 Link in the rear and SOA up front. I still think no on the shackle reversal, but am I going to cut & turn. Currently collecting parts for the power steering. Man the list goes on and on!

I've always thought that the 4 link in the rear would be the ultimate for my piggy. Then slap the rears in the front and whalla. Hell, anything besides my stock springs will do, especially since one of my fronts is getting a little saggier than the other.

You don't need power steering. Powering 35's without power steering on rocks in a pig going 0.5mph is great exercise and impresses your friends by all of the grunts you can make at the same time. I don't know why I've had manual steering for so damn long.

I know what you mean...I love when the spotter goes..."CRANK THE WHEELS THAT WAY!" lol...yeah right...YOU come crank the wheels that way!

To start, that is my plan for sure...

4 Link rear
55 rears up front SOA

Found some power steering parts, THANKS Treerootco, so it is getting closer and closer. I am talking with Proffitts about getting the kit more tuned for a 55, so we will see what changes will need to be made. Basically if any, I would assume the links would need to be longer. I will definitely post up a buildup thread.
