My thoughts, in order to do an expedition type trip it would require an extra few days to do it right. possibly more time than some could spend. Maybe meet at the original camp for a weekend, etc. and then anybody wanting to go on they could go as a group. Everywhere you've mentioned, we have on our list. Being an old flatlander, I've been trying to build up our mountain pass experience, but still not sure how I would feel on some like Black Bear Pass. Some of those higher passes might still be closed in June, I have no real time knowledge of that, just what I've read.

All that said, we'll try to make whatever it is.

Hmmmm, I'd love a good excuse to meet up and gawk at some of the Knight's Swine!

All the above ideas sound great. I was thinking of trying to make this year's Overland Expo in Flagstaff in early May, but would consider this trip instead. I've yet to see the areas mentioned in detail, and would love to rally the pig way out that way to meet up. I really like the idea of meeting at one location for a weekend and then touring around for the next few days or more. That should satisfy more people's needs/schedules assuring better turnout etc.

Next year y'all will have to travel up to the good 'ol Pacific Northwest for the second annual Pig Party! (merely a suggestion of course!)

Excellent idea. Get to see a lot more of an area considering how far some of us will have to travel. Road trip yahoo.

These are great ideas! That's why Rico is a good jump off point. From there, one could make it to Silverton on just forest service roads alone. There's even a route to Telluride without taking the pavement to get there. All kinds of lodging to be had, from a simple tent to a nice cabin.

This is going to be at the height of the tourist season so booking things in advance is a must. I think it might be wiser to plan something midweek to run into a weekend. If you used, for example, the Cayton campgrounds as the base camp, there is easily more than a weeks worth of exploring to be had.

As scrapdaddy mentioned, some of the areas around Uray may be inpassble in June.

Amazing photos! Pardon the hijack, Does anyone know (probably by looking at the rig) what suspension setup is on that pig? Looks to be 33's, but wondering if that is an Alcan lift or OME. Looks to be at least 3". Not that I have a pig, I am always planning! LOL

Yes 33's with and OME lift from Cruiser Outfitters. I would guess that it's about a 3" lift. I'm still young enough to pull myself up in there, my wife has a bit of trouble. Sliders may be in our future plans.

Crikey! I think we have really similar pop-ups:

Some really good ideas in here! I think the idea of basing out of a campsite for day trips for a few days at least make sense for us. We might try to run things further out than a day trip on the way in or out, hard to say.

I think we need to nail down a date first, then we can go from there. June means we have Father's Day and tourists to contend with, plus snow in the high country...

Would July or even August be better for anyone? I'm pretty much open in the Summer months. The guys with trailers would be better off staying in one spot and doing the day trips. To be honest, I don't care too much for packing the tent up every day. I'm not that energetic anymore. :) Maybe everybody should think of their preferred dates, get them listed and we go from there.

Man just wish it was not so far away from Louisiana. Would be a awesome time I am sure of it.

Keep throwing those great ideas out. Gets people inspired. I like scrapdaddy's "A Traveling Pigfest" lets wallow

You need a lift kit :)

Pablo Cruise- HA! Rad. Of course we do. :)

bobm- I agree... lift that 'ol pop up!

Not sure if I'd be dragging this down for the wallow fest though... Ours is a '77 Coleman Concord i found locally. Looked for a long time for the right pop up, wanted a small and solid platform to tweak. I gutted this one and tossed the canvas, it was all in real rough shape. I had a new frame built for ours, cut the tongue off the original, and then welded it on top of the new frame. Some old springs and shocks, new 3500# axle with 10" elec. brakes, Toyota rims and 29" tires, new tongue box and propane mount, new canvas, new mattresses/covers, etc. etc. etc. Working on electrical and interior lately... I love projects. :)

SORRY, HIJACK OVER!

THREAD RELEVANT MATERIAL-

Later in the summer would mean hotter/dryer, and more passes would be open, but we'd still be dealing with other folks/crowds, etc. Not sure how later in the summer works for folks, but it may be better timing depending on our objective. I agree though, nailing down dates are important for planning... :)

After driving my pig for the first time in a year I am ready for adventure. I got to work and back yesterday without any problems and feel better about crossing state lines now. I could always flat tow behind the Commander if needed. Either way I wanna go. My swine flu is flaring up again.

Megadoomer,

I felt the same way earlier this year when we went to Moab. I had 300 miles on it and said screw it, we're going on an adventure. This is going to be an awesome trip for all of us. look forward to meeting everybody.

Early July has the Black Hills Cruiser Classic, followed by 100s In The Hills, so July is pretty full for me.

August has a competition I better be ready for, so also not likely for me...

@wct49 are you up for pig fun?

Alright, maybe we should start a list of everybody's dates and see if we can come to an agreement. If somebody has a good way of keeping a list updated speak up, because I don't. :) Post up your dates and Pablo, you're a busy man!

Scrapdaddy...June, July, August
