does the paint stick well?

Nice picture, but I think the title says no flares.

Having them painted looks great! The linex is growing on me though

Went flare-less today. I love the look going to bed liner the bottom now.

I know, curb shot. Looks pretty good right after being washed, though.

Oh, and I am constantly, constantly being asked about or praised for the Herculiner. It's not as perfect a job as the expensive pro stuff, but people around here really like it. It looks pretty good and the durability + price can't be beat. 'Bout $100 or less in Herc and never have to worry about snow or branches. I just slapped that aluminum body tape over the holes and rolled it on. Will probably redo the UV Topcoat this summer just to be sure.

How about a 50/50 shot, during the removal process....

I was planning on keeping mine, the JDM flares are a narrower profile than the domestic style, but I didn't heed the advice at the start of Rubithon last year about removing them.

Mine came from the factory without flares, and some thin chrome trim around the wheel wells. Here it is after a baseline and a transmission swap with a 1" spacer lisft and 265 75 16. Using 4Runner wheels without spacers and the offset is perfect.

Mine.
OME 850/863, 285s, ARB Commercial bar (for flareless rigs).

Some nice rigs in this thread, but I think I'll keep my flares for now. After seeing the non-US spec 80's I defiantly need white front corner/turn signal lights and a 4 headlight conversion.

Here's mine - not a side view exactly but it will give you an idea...

First time trying from my phone. This is during the surgery :)

How well did the marks scrub off when you removed the flares?

How well did the marks scrub off when you removed the flares?

On my truck not very. Used a rubber eraser wheel to get the adhesive off in spots but my problem was the rubber gaskets were not in good shape and actually rubbed through the paint leaving nice white/metal outlines of the flares.

Does anyone have a red cruiser with grey liner on it?

How do you prep the body before spraying or brushing Line-X?
And is Line -X what everybody uses?

I used bright green masking tape from Ace Hardware and some white freezer paper from Costco for taping/masking mine. I used Herculiner, which comes in a kit with scuff pad and roller, plus the Herucliner UV Topcoat which I had to order. I bought some xylene but don't think I ever used it. Maybe a little bit to wipe the scuff dust up.

Here are my off-site pics. You can blow them up huge if you want to. Just go to the right side of each pic and a sizing window will jump out at you.

Cruiser stuff, build process

Pics 95-117 on this site are when I did my roof.

Pics 148-153 show the eraser wheel removing adhesive. I used picture hanger wire to "floss" off the emblems.

Notice, I left the little roof rails on for my first job. No biggie, but I probably would have removed them if I'd known about the wire flossing and rubber wheel when I did the roof. Not sure what the point would be in removing them if you're going to bedline over them anyway.

Doing the body was just like the roof. Tape, paper, scuff, wipe, roll, dry, roll, dry, roll Topcoat, dry, pull tape and paper.
